I am reminded of the Civil War. Slavery was not the only issue, but had it gone away it would likely have prevented the civil war.
The McCormick Reaper and subsequent machine cultivation and harvesting made the business of keeping slaves uneconomical, and it was only a matter of time before the institution of Slavery would have been phased out by technology.
The Islamic world is in a similar state. We might not have to go to war with it. I believe if it can just be held back from doing something stupid (Iran with Nukes) technology will eventually overturn the dogmatic fanaticism of Islamic extremists.
The Internet has brought pornography into the Muslim world, and as a result, Muslims are having impure thoughts. :) As a result, it undermines the absolute rigid control that religious purists have on their followers.
The internet has also made them aware of other vices, and I think in a long term contest between the vices and their religion, the vices are going to win. Before the Islamic Crackdown in Iran 1979, (Thank you Jimmy Carter!) Iranian girls were wearing clothing which was quite provocative by their standards.
In an odd sort of way, Pornography and such may end up being a force for good in the middle east.
Yes, it's an odd theory, but I'm not the only one who recognizes it as a possibility.
People looking at the state of Islam in a similar way have even suggested that this possible impending collapse of Islam is emboldening terrorists, making them more desperate to advance their goals while they still have the chance.
