The Islamic world is in a similar state. We might not have to go to war with it. I believe if it can just be held back from doing something stupid (Iran with Nukes) technology will eventually overturn the dogmatic fanaticism of Islamic extremists.

That is very likely a factor in their behavior. They see the advancing threat to their religion just as we do.
