What about the Strip Club’s free speech?
/s
There are Freepers here, I’m sure, that would argue in favor of the strip club, just as they argue in favor or unlimited, unrestricted, freely available internet porn.
Most states have zoning laws stating where a bar can open up.
In most states all bars, with the exception of the American Legion, can not open up within 500 feet of a church or school.
Notice that this says “strip club” but you have to assume they will be selling booze as well. So why is it that a place that sells booze is allowed to open up right next to a Convent?
Even if they are not selling booze, selling porn is just as bad and would like to think there are zoning laws on where they can open up.
There are freepers here that are no really freepers. {:-)
Hey! You’ve been following my posting history!
This brings up a matter that bothers here in Texas. For the record, I am very proud of our state and dislike when it's diminished or mocked in any way, especially by outsiders.
When driving south from Oklahoma on I-35, arguably the main gateway to the state, there's large, brightly-lit smut shop, DW's Video, just across the state line after crossing the Red River (located in Gainesville).
I don't consider myself a prude and understand that business is business. Plus, I don't want a nanny state. As far as I know, neither this shop nor its owner have been involved in any crime. Still, being so proud of Texas as I am, if nothing else, this porn emporium just seems tacky as a "Welcome to Texas" greeting. It must be some embarrassment to the state because the welcome sign is placed beyond the actual state line, a few hundred yards south of the D-W's Video store, making it appear that the porn purveyor may actually be in Oklahoma.
Ideally, I'd like to see the free market work here. If I had the money, I'd buy the land where D-W's is located and put up a gun shop. Really. I think that would be a more apt welcome to our state and better reflects our values. Or maybe a boat shop since it's by the Lake Texoma area.
I've pinged a few of the more active Texans to get their take, some of whom may end up schooling me that there's no right to not be offended. So I'm prepared for incoming! :-)
