Vanity: Got a Robocall from DNC and it is only March (live in VA)
Vanity | March 15, 2012 | Me

Posted on 03/15/2012 7:22:49 AM PDT by C19fan

The house phone rang last night and I picked it up. There was a taped message and I was not sure what it was about for a few seconds then I heard some political crap and the call was from the DNC. I hung up right then. I live in VA which will be one of the key battleground states. It is only March and I am already getting Robocalls. I cringe in horror at the thought of the phone ringing continuously in October. My annoyance will apply to calls from both parties.

I got one two weeks ago, here in Ohio, Cleveland area.
Question; “Are you satisfied with the job Pres. Obama is doing?”
My answer, a loud “No!”
Click. Dial tone.

Are these “866-” numbers? We have caller ID so I ignore those...
After a cocktail or two, I might answer just to have some fun....

Shocking.

I mean, it’s shocking that people are still paying for obsolete land lines. They are the exclusive province of telemarketers and other charlatans including pollsters with their preposterous sampling and results.

We let the machine answer all of our home calls. The volume is down to just audible so we aren’t bothered, and we check the machine maybe a couple of times a day to see what we have caught. Once in awhile somebody we want to talk to has left a message, and we call them back. We really don’t give a d-—— what people think.

We leave our cell phones off unless we are travelling individually, or expecting a call directed to those numbers.

We really don’t like intrusions by politicians into our lives. Even those we support.

I think it is shocking that so many people call me with cell phones that drop calls or have very poor quality. Most of the time, I get better quality on good ol' POTS.

While doing some routine computer maintenance for my 75yr old mom, I went through some of the hundreds of unread email messages. She would get 6 or 7 every day from the DNC warning her how dangerous the GOP was/is. The were all addressed from Pelosi, Reid, Schultz offices and local whatever local offices too. All begging for money. No different than any other outfit that scams seniors.

I do not know if the GOPe does the same thing.

Actually, that was a Reuters/IPSOS poll. If you had answered YES, you would have been included, and asked many more followup questions.

They have their standards.

I do my part to discourage those.

I don’t pick up the phone if I don’t recognize the number. Eventually, they stop calling.

Our landline telephone service offers caller id and call forwarding. All annoying calls are forwarded to our local movie listing message.

I have been getting political robocalls that offer free 2 day trips if I take the 3 question survey.

I took the first survey and when someone came on the line I asked them the same questions. They hung up.

I no longer get calls.

After being inundated with these vile robo calls from the local GOP clowns I finally resorted to calling their campaign headquarters every 5 minutes until they stopped. I also did the same thing to the local republican party headquarters threatening them with charges of harassment.

I know they carved out their exception to the Do Not Call law (which of course is illegal for them to do) but they still are not allowed to harass.

Why do we continue to allow them to pass laws we are supposed to obey yet they are exempt? Outside of their protection for what they say on the House/Senate floor, these traitors to the US Constitution (both parties) are supposed to be constrained to the same restriction imposed upon the rest of us.

I cannot imagine why anyone would be influenced positively by a robocall. If anything, they just make me annoyed with whoever calls.

When I get a robocall I start pressing random numbers hoping to get a live preson, I tell them to quit calling. If they call back, I get a live person and ring a cowbell into the phone and then tell them ‘I told you to quit calling’ They usually don’t call back.

The occasional dropped call to/from someone you know and wish to converse with is a small price to pay compared to receiving calls/robocalls from telemarketers and ‘surveys’ even if they are crystal clear to say nothing of the phone ringing even when you don’t intend to answer it.

My unlisted landline gets fewer calls than my unlisted cell phone. I also like a phone that I can dial while holding the receiver to my ear. I also like having the phone in another room instead of carrying a doohickey with me all of the time.

I find that “cell phone people” spend more time on the phone, and are perceived as always available. Proper number management can stop that, of course, but the same applies to landlines. Landline folks aren’t necessarily crazy.

Oh, and when I am job hunting call quality is absolutely essential. My landline delivers every time.
