Guns&Ammo Review: Arsenal Firearms Introduces Double Barrel Pistol (.45cal)
Guns & Ammo ^ | 3/12/12 | Iain Harrison

It may come as a surprise to some (and boy, do I feel like a cantankerous old geezer for saying this,) but firearms are a mature technology. We all have to be aware that just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should”

Following the invention of the double column magazine by Deudonne Saive, there really haven’t been a whole lot of original ideas coming out of the handgun industry for the last 75 years. Yes, I know, underqualified hacks like me will tell you all about the latest whizbang doodad from SHOT show, but in comparison to say, the medical field, it’s really just the refinement of existing technologies and the application of new materials from other industries, combined in many instances with hyperbolic marketing.

Which brings me to the AF2011-A1 double barrel pistol from Arsenal Firearms. If you listen carefully to the video, you can almost hear the dialog in the meeting that lead to it’s creation. ”Hey Franz, we’ve got a couple of spare 1911′s and a MIG welder. Any clue what we can do with them?” Either that, or they hired a recently-graduated business consultant who mistook the South Park underpants gnomes episode as an instruction manual.

According to Aresenal’s site, the AF2011-A1 is the “very first industrial double barrel semiautomatic pistol of all times.” But wait there’s more. They’re claiming that they are making this “true industrial market-ready double barrel .45 caliber pistol” to commemorate the Colt 1911-A1 in the Centenary.

It is offered either with two independent triggers and one sear group or with two triggers permanently joined and the choice of one or two sear groups. You can pick up one of these wunderkinds in mirror finish Deep Blue or with a 3400 Vickers surface hardness White Ash Nitrite coating.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a brilliant idea that involves a couple of Glock 17s and a tube of JB Weld…

It's best with a mount.

What did everyone expect after the popularity of “The Judge?”

Now if they could just make a 1911 that doesn't jam every 300 rounds...

Keep it clean and lubed and you will have no problems. I was on a pistol team for the military using "rack" (sloppy) 1911s and never had a single jam.

Not sure as to the point of this. A standard .45 will drop a man, no questions asked.

So why pay all that much more for the overkill? Not to mention just how wide the grip is. It looks like there is no way anyone with small hands could even fire it.

I’ll bet that clearing a jam on that thing is a lot of fun.

Makes me wonder if this firearm is NFA-restricted because of the ‘More than one round per function of the trigger’ ATF ruling that describes machine guns.

If you want more than one chunk of lead per trigger pull going downrange, just get a Taurus Judge.

The only possible use for the thing would be home defense, and shotgun is better!

I have two 1911’s and I have never had one jam, with tens of thousands of rounds run through them. Buy good ammo - not the cheap crap. Federal makes good ammo. The same goes for magazines, which also need to be cleaned after use. Apply oil, then remove any excess. Don’t load and unload mags unnecessarily - the cycles of compression and uncompression will weaken springs over time. Store them loaded. Periodically, though: unload the mags and reload them in a different sequence. Finally, keep your guns clean and well-lubricated, stored in a cool, low-humidity location.

“Oh bother,” said Pooh as he chambered another round.

I’m just hoping I made the right decision on a IWB holster today. I ordered a Comp-Tac Minotaur. It seemed to be more comfortable than the Cross-Breed, but more money than the Blade-Tech. I have trouble finding homes for my CZs.
Guess the proof is in the wearing, when it arrives.

They should do this with the AR-15.

This thing looks like it has two triggers.

A jam on one side just keep shooting with the other side?
