It's a given in bird and critter photography that closer is always better but a big lens will work too.
This is a Sigma 400mm f5.6 in Minolta A mount. In this pic it's on my Minolta Maxxum XTsi but it also fits my Sony. On the Sony it is equivalent to 600mm.
This lens was made in the mid 80s but can pass for new, not a blemish on it anywhere.
My goodness gracious! Lens envy...
KEH has a 6 month warranty now, almost as good as new.
Check out KEH at reseller ratings, there aren't many companies with so many happy customers.
I've bought a couple of point and shoots new, for the major stuff I look for good used or refurbed items.
More like beacon and big beacon!
I have a lovely old Nikon - I think it is an e 200mm - a huge lens which captures almost as much light as a 50mm. Wish I could remember exactly the type, but it has an integral ‘pod mount and it’s in a big leather Nikon case...
Love your posts, Sniper!
Better check it, that leather case is a good place for fungus to flourish and contaminate the lens coatings.
Thank you for the info. I just bought a new camera, so no new toys for me for awhile.
