I look at them a little differently; it was them actually singing, just not playing the instruments, and eventually, they did develop the instrumental skills.
RIP. You'll be remembered as being forever young at heart.
RIP Davy.
Thanks for hours of enjoyment in front of our very first color TV. The model of the Monkee Mobile I built and proudly displayed in my room. The records I would play and play and play till I drove my sisters mad. For the hair style I copied, until David Cassidy came along and inspired me to push the envelope and my parents just a little bit more. And thanks for the reruns that my own 10 year old son now likes watching.

“Remember the Monkeymobile?”

Since Clarksville TN which was a huge railhead from Civil War days is just south of Fort Campbell KY, major training base and home of the 101st Airborne Division which went to Vietnam in fall 1965, that would make sense.
When I shipped to RVN in 1971, troop movement was mostly by World Airways aka FarFarEastern Airlines (”Fly to exotic foreign locations. Meet interesting local people. And kill them.”)
