On March 6th, the Republican Party of Virginia will be holding its Presidential Primary at your local polling precincts. Polls open just like regular voting times, 6am to 7pm.
You have 4 choices: Vote for Romney, vote for Paul, stay home/don't vote or show up and do an "undervote".
Please do go to the polls and vote, if possible. More votes at the poll show more Republican strength.
An undervote allows you to vote (in person or absentee) by showing up, pressing the VOTE button without choosing either candidate. Some might consider it a "protest vote" or a "blank" vote, if you choice is not on the ballot but it counts as a vote in the Republican primary, without adding a vote to either candidate on the ballot.
You are NOT allowed to do a write-in in a Virginia Primary.
I wonder what happens if you do it anyway, is your ballot just discarded? (might be fun for a protest anyway) Or is the one of those all electronic ballots where there is just physically no way to do it.
Paper ballots (in the precincts that use them) are discarded. Electronic voting will not have that as an option.
I will either undervote or vote for Paul.
Virginia has voting machines, no ballots, unless you have voted absentee.
Virginia has voting machines, no ballots, unless you have voted absentee.
One could vote strategically for Ron Paul to stop Romney. That is what I am going to do.
I won’t do it. If I remember right they gave under votes to
Al Gore because they “knew” that was the person the under voters wanted.
Vote for Ron Paul. He isn’t going to get the election period. But giving him Virginia will send a message to GOP.
WE DO NOT WANT ROMNEY! PERIOD
I plan to vote for Ron Paul in the Virginia primary, but I’m going to feel like the world’s biggest jackass if that doofus ends up getting the repugnican nomination...
Agreed. I’ll be in the same boat. I am NOT voting for Romney.
Concur, will vote for Paul (to stop Romney)
I’m voting Paul and so is my just turned 18 year old daughter!
I voted a couple weeks ago because I won’t be around on the 6th. The absentee ballot has 2 boxes. You could write someone else in on some blank part of the paper I guess, but it would be a waste, because the people at the voting places won’t pay any attention to it, and really don’t care if you’re protesting anything.
In my precinct, there is only one electronic voting machine. I wanted to use it last election but told it was not working (the precinct plugged it into a non-working outlet).
I encourage the undervote. You can believe that they look at that.
Rarely is just the Presidential candidates on the ballot. There are down ballot that are even more important than the Pres.
Research them and crawl over broken glass to vote the best man in each race to go up in November.
The candidates will notice how many signed up to vote and will see the undervote for the Pres. race as a “none of the above” vote.
In Virginia, the presidential primary is the ONLY thing being voted on for Super Tuesday.
We have ANOTHER primary in early June for all our other things (Senate and congressional races, etc.).
I will definitely be out to vote. I was going to do the undervote, but I am now seriously considering voting for Ron Paul, in the hopes he can take my district and cost Romney some delegates.
I’m definitely voting for Ron Paul here in Virginia. Its my way of voting against Romney. I encourage all Virginians to do the same.
Undervoting will accomplish the same goal, without giving a boost to the insufferable Paul supporters.
Thanks for the heads up, Gopher Broke. Sounds like a great plan! I hope all Freepers will contact friends and run this by them. Otherwise a lot of Virginians will not be going to the polls tomorrow.
