The point that strikes me about all of these dog shootings is that they must be the result of official or unofficial policy. There are way too many of them to be a massive coincidence.

I suspect that the policy is unofficial - one JBT talking to another in the JBT locker room, and then another and then another. I think that’s how it happens.

Shortly after my husband died (on the farm) I had ADT put in an alarm system...It took them 3 days, as the house was an old post and beam construction and almost 100 years old. One night the alarm went off and ADT called the sheriff's office. I couldn't find the back up battery system and the key pad only stopped the alarm temp. as the battery back up system had to also be disarmed...

Anyway a few minutes later I saw a deputy walking up my drive way....My dog was barking and I had my revolver at my side and went to the door. Opened it a crack (3 season porch) and the deputy stopped about 20 feet from the porch. The first question I asked him was, are you from the sheriff's office, (seems dumb doesn't it) when he said yes, I asked him where his car was, cause there was no cop car in sight....He said on alarms they don't drive into the drive way of the home and his partner was around back checking windows and doors. I told him to wait, (he never approached my house from the time I opened the door a crack to talk with him) until I put my dog in the back room, I laid my gun in plain site and then let him in the house. His partner showed up a few minutes later and said he found no sign of entry (this was at 2am) We sat and they took a report and left...

Sheriff deputy's in rural area's aren't stupid. They know most farms have dogs for protection and don't use them for target practice.

My alarm was still cycling every minute and when it went off it cut off the phone and I was trying to find out how to stop the battery from cycling. It was a pretty big system and had an alarm (large horn) in the attic. Rural areas alarms are quite loud. The following day several neighbors came out to check and like one gal said, she didn't know if she should have come over or not.....I told her she was smart to stay away when you don't know whats going on. Her house was about 1/4 mile down the road.....

I don't know why all of a sudden lately cops are shooting dogs...this deputy was smart enough to not approach the house from the time I went to the door and farm dogs are quite territorial....I give the sheriff's department and those 2 deputy's a 5 star response.

The never questioned me about my handgun, in plain site and I am glad. It wasn't registered and I had inherited it from my father when he passed on. It was the one he had registered for his CC weapon. (retired cop)

That was quite a while and 2 house's ago, but I was smart enough to put my dog in the utility room. She use to be an outside dog on a chain by the back door. I cannot imagine some cop so scared and stupid they would trespass without permission and then shoot a dog doing his job of protecting his territory..

My guess is that the reason why cops are now trained to shoot dogs almost automatically is that drug dealers use dogs as weapons to either distract or attack so the cops are forced to deal with the dogs while the dealers either run away or go on the attack. By immediately shooting the dog, it gets it out of the way.

It’s another benefit of the war on drugs, dead dogs.

Does your state have Castle Doctrine?

If it does, you don’t need them anyway.

Several days ago the psycho on the hill had one of his big dead, rotted pine trees fall on my goat pasture fence and smash it.

Every time I let the dogs out, he stands at his basement door and watches me.

I wonder if he’s thinking of coming in my yard to ask what I want done about it or go cut up the tree that’s laying in my field.

[Frankly, I “feel threatened by him”]

He knows about the law so I’m betting he’ll never set foot on the property.

Since my dad threatened to sue him blind for the trees that fell on *his* fence a while ago, he’s facing quite the conundrum....especially since he knows I’m packing while outside ever since the rabid coon incident last fall.

[he thinks I’m “just crazy enough”...imagine that]

I think it’s funny...in a twisted sort of way.

The tree’s been laying there for days, untouched.

I’m letting him sweat.

The irony is that he was going to cut down all the healthy, beautiful Maples that border my fence to avoid them ever falling on it even though I would prefer he didn’t.
I enjoy seeing them in the spring and summer.

He didn’t see this coming, the idiot.

Kurt must be out of his mind.

Well, he may be, but she delivered the line in a movie (Butterflies Are Free).

More indications that the police have turned into thugs with guns. Must have looking to get himself on the SWAT squad so he can play soldier on civilians.

Despite having no warrant and no probable cause, he jumped a fence and killed a dog for biting him. But there is “no cause for disciplinary action.”

Go figure.

Yeah.

Most drug dealers are moms with 4 kids in a dilapidated trailer and a geriatric guard mutt who call the cops to come “visit” their meth labs.

Such bullshit.

The coward cop trespassed and freaked out when he discovered that illegal entry had ‘consequences’.

End of story.

I hope she wins her case and he winds up as a mall cop somewhere.

“Despite having no warrant and no probable cause”

If you get pulled over for speeding or a broken tail light, they can now have a ‘drug dog’ wander around your vehicle, “just because”.

“Warrants and probable” cause are *so* 25 years ago.

Only for those who are too blind, stoned or brainwashed to see.

Most of America is asleep.

“..., however that’s the situation that occurred and so now we’ll deal with it,” Lt. Robert McDonald said.

NO—The family is now left to deal with it and the cops walk with impunity and the satisfaction of knowing there is one less dog in the community.

Baca said she plans to hire an attorney.

Well, good for them!

The sooner some clever lawyer nails one of these jack-booted thugs the better. Too many of them just think that because they have a badge they can do about anything that pleases them. And no, aside from an occasional speeding ticket I have had no run-ins with the law.

I’ve thought the same thing. I’m a Legion member with the retired, longest serving sheriff of the metro Atlanta county I live in. He and I went and had a talk with the local police chief because I don’t play well with tyrants.

[I’m starting to wonder if they aren’t purposely hiring guys who failed their psych evaluations]

I had just sent Salamander a private comment and didn't intend to post a public one, but WTH, here goes.

I disagree. The LEO depts. deliberately select cop candidates who exhibit an aggressive personality. They like candidates who have no problem pushing people around and killing dogs, and flaunting their authority in other ways. I suspect most of them use the law as a pretext for this kind of behavior. And we're supposed to respect them?

There is no excuse for illegal trespassing without a warrant and shooting a dog which is *supposed to be* in the yard.

None. Anyone else would have been arrested for that behavior.

“no run-instead with the law.”

You aren’t alone into that. every run into with the law I’ve had has built my hatred for them, and I’ve never even sat in a patrol car.
But of couse if you ask the jackboot lovers, we’re just soft on crime if we demand LEOs act like servants rather than demanding to be our masters.
