Doomsday Preppers explores the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it. Unique in their beliefs, motivations, and strategies, preppers will go to whatever lengths they can to make sure they are prepared for any of lifes uncertainties. And with our experts assessment, they will find out their chances of survival if their worst fears become a reality.

They usually have one or two halfway normal people and a couple of complete wack jobs. The last one had a commune of hippies who actually had a pretty good set-up until the point of security came up. They said they would ‘invite the marauding bands in to eat’ and show them how nice they are so they wouldn’t want to attack them. ::facepalm::
Anyone that would be on that show is a FOOL! (they will be among the first to get routed when TSHTF)
It’s ok. Not as kooky as one would think although there are is the bozo who shoots off his thumb during filming, the dingbat liberals who think using their charm will save them from zombies and the gal who’s going to execute her cat. Try watching it for tips like preserving eggs.
Designed to make the right look like redneck idiots.
Allows you to be painted with the same brush, if you’ve got guns and some extra groceries.
They are already being rounded up. Someone posted a few days ago a story about how one guy on the show had all his guns seized and given government psychological evaluations and declared ‘mentally defective.’

Prepper?
Where I live the neighbors are the prep network. They have been supporting each other for well over 100 years.
Some of the same families still live here who settled here in the 1880’s.
No need to go anywhere. That seems very sane to me.
The disabled fat guy that was on a week or so ago has already been taken in for observation and they confiscated all of his weapons.
Last night one of the preppers was throwing malatov cocktails into a fire in his yard. He also show about a gazillion weapons in his house. Expect a visit from DHS anyday.
We love to watch the show but you have to be insane to go on there and tell what you have.
This show is making it easy for the DHS to identify potential “Domestic Terrorists”.
“They said they would invite the marauding bands in to eat and show them how nice they are so they wouldnt want to attack them.”
Haha . . . I actually saw that part. Somewhere in New England, I think. Their faith in the human condition in such an extreme scenario was a tad naive!
I keep hoping the most-preped guy in my neighborhood will be on the show. Save me a bunch of work when the SHTF.
This show is subterfuge - it is about exposing what a liberal would call a right wing nut.. I'm sure Janet Nazitano and her Gestapo goons are eager and will take notes.
When has something anyone in the film media ever done anything worthwhile for the conservative thinker? Especially the media of today, in ANY format?
Stay away from it.
Furthermore, I recall a youtube video where this peace-loving hippy described in the expression of a sociopath how he would kill those people in their sleep, or poison them.
He’s a dangerous, dangerous man.
I see very little tips - a lot of wacky people and a show more interesting than ‘Horders’(looks like they are going after that viewer audience)
A Sane Prepper would never go on this show.
I used to live in that county, and can attest that the rule of law is often of little consequence in parts of TN. That said, I suspect he is being a little overdramatic in that he has no recourse. I emailed him last week, explaining that I am a conservative lawyer who lives nearby, and would be willing to see what I could do, but I never heard back from him. Another article I read said that Gun Owners of America is taking on his case. While I don’t practice in mental health law, I suspect it takes more than just a doctor’s say-so to declare someone incompetent and confiscate their property and not even allow them to dispose of it the way they want. It is Wilson County, however...
I agree 100%. Kinda like the first rule of Fight Club: You don't talk about Fight Club.
One of the preppers has her own web site and defends her decision to appear on TV. The site is actually pretty good and does have some interesting info:
My impression too. NatGeo has a political bent, indeed.
NatGeo has a lovey-dovey relationship with enviro-wackos, but you will never hear what some of those environuts believe.
IIRC, none of the "reasons" for their motivations for being a prepper are about oppressive government-government out of control.
The underlying reason that the Libs are trying to ridicule preppers, IMO, is one word or phrase, independence or rugged indiviualism. This has got to drive the Libs crazy. To think that individuals and groups do not need government to survive is so, well, American. This cannot be allowed by Libs and must be ridiculed.
As many have pointed out, the show seems designed to make preppers look crazy. Also, the producers go out of their way to show any religious symbols that are on the prepper’s person or in their home.
They talk about staying “under the radar’ or “off the grid”, then do a reality show? Now all the “threats” know who they are, where to find them and how they are armed. Bad guys (including their own government) can plan too, and are not always stupid.
I tend to agree. There is one thing that I see in this show as a glaring ommission. Of all the skills to obtain as a prepper (i.e. food preservation, shelter, security, communication, fire arms and so on), the one skill set that is missing or de-ephasized is leadership. That is, the skill set of bringing indiviuals into the fold as functioning members; establishing interdependency between desparate groups such as trade, reconnoitering, etc.; and implementing long term plans to rebuild and rejoin. For lack of a better phrase, don't shoot me, it is community organizing.
The abiltiy to shoot a pistol is worthy, but the ability to train a bunch of newcomers as a security team and place them accordingly is far more lasting and powerful.
So the "subterfuge" is really about inhibiting the role of leadership among preppers and such associations by making anyone who steps up to the plate look like "a right wing nut". Imagine if the preppers were truly organized and cohesive? The Libs would howl.
