Here is the question from my sons 10th grade World History homework.
"In both ancient and modern times, one can see countless examples of the strained relationship that exists between Christians and Muslims. WHy do these disagreements continue to occur despite the fact that the beliefs in both religions are so strikingly similar and preach peace before violence."
We have been studying islam in our LCMS adult Bible class. I suggest he read the first part (five or six chapters) of the queeran. Mu Ham ed actually quoted the Bible in several verses. He said it is the true Word of God and declared it authentic. The muslimes only want to use his later writings. There is a CD I will get the title from our class leader, if you want it.
It’s a crying shame Ann Barnhardt or Pamela Geller don’t post at FR...your son would have more info than he could possibly present...
Why does this textbook compare Christianity to a totalitarian political system like Islam? Similar? ROTFLMAO!!! Kids...ever hear of Daniel Pearl? Nick Berg?
The short answer explaining the unending violence is that Christians are not quite infinitely accomodating of the cultural differences of outsiders, while Muslims cannot be bothered to accept even the most trifling ones:
Often a non-Muslim (or whole families of them) must pay a special tax to simply exist in a Muslim country —never mind that his faith takes nothing materially from the people there. They simply wish to attach a cost in measurable substance to *BEING* DIFFERENT; differences bother Muslis, and they want to be less bothered, rather than more so. And so they levy this tax.
Think of it as, “pay as you pollute” —and YOU are the pollution.
Meanwhile many Muslims abroad often go out of their way to shove their very active beliefs in your face:
Are you studying for finals in a quiet University library? No matter —they will deploy a magic carpet with a compass, and go about a braying protocol with wild gesticulations. In a city gym also.
It’s once, right, no big deal..? For some, yes, but for many it’s actually 5 times daily. In Britain they have even had Muslim bus drivers pull the bus over mid-transit, and go about this wild foolishness.
Speaking of Britain, they will marry their cousin —or several of them— pop out predictably mongoloid offspring, and then expect the public health system to pick up the tab. If they’re asked WHY they think Allah cursed them with such kids, they’ll say, “It’s punishment for trusting British medicine....”
That has happened THOUSANDS of times in the UK.
Fine if Muzzies can’t get along with the stiff British, but how do you explain Muzzies also can’t get along with Thais..? Because of the famous hatred and short-temperedness of *Thais*...? Or Australia —ozzies got bored of surf and beer and suddenly took up beating Muslims...?
In short, Muslims CANNOT GET ALONG WITH ANYONE, INCLUDING (AND ESPECIALLY) WITH ONE ANOTHER.
The koran has all sorts of conflicting passages.
Islam is seditious to the US Constitution.
Read about Cain and Abel....then study a bit of history.....The Islamists come from a line of people that God promised would ALWAYS be miserable and at odds with their brothers. Christians on the other hand come from the Judaic and Gentile nations and are taught that salvation comes from God’s grace. There is no salvation in Islam there is only martyrdom. Allah was a false prophet of a false Moon God and a pedophile to boot. He was not fully God nor fully human.... he was evil incarnate.
That should be enough talking points to upset the liberals in class
Answer: Because islam is a satanic genocidal cult bent on world domination.
Next question?
Because Islam was started by a child molesting murderer that wanted sex with all the women he could get and Christianity is actually about God.
Lent: The 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday until Easter observed by Christians as a season of fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter.
ramadan: The Koran mandates fasting during the month of Ramadan:
The month of Ramadan is that in which the Koran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days... (sura 2.185, known as The Cow)
Fasting, or sawm, during the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Sunni Islam.
Why fast?
to develop patience and self-control
to learn sympathy for the deprived
to cleanse the body and mind
to gain appreciation for Allah’s bounty
to demonstrate the depth of one’s commitment
to protect against sin. A hadith states: “Satan runs in the circulatory system of the son of Adam in the same way blood circulates in our system; so tighten his passages with hunger.”
There are, then, three levels of the Ramadan fast:
refraining from the physical things that are forbidden (performed with the mouth/stomach/sexual organs)
restraining oneself from saying, hearing and looking at forbidden things (performed with the senses)
renewing one’s devotion to Allah (performed with the heart and mind).
Special meals are eaten before and after each day of fasting: suhoor before the dawn prayers, and iftar, the evening meal often eaten communally and often including dates.
I swore by the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the breath of the faster is sweeter to Allah on the Day of Judgment than the scent of musk. (Abu Hureirah)
In addition, Ramadan is a time for increased devotion, reading of the Koran, self-improvement, community involvement, charity and good deeds.
He who does not desist from obscene language and acting obscenely, Allah has no need that he did not eat or drink. (Bukhari)
Huh?
“preach peace”
I forgot. Deeds. Not words. By their fruits shall we know them.
Threading the needle on this assignment is a trick. If you decide to go hard line on it, phrase it with pointing to authorities, authors and other texts. Use phrases such as “appear to” or “according to...” rather than argue the point directly.
I don’t know how your child could argue the case truly and receive an A in a public school. It might be better to lie or only appear to give the politically correct answer. Every student learns how to do that, at every level of study. It’s a game, and it’s a rackett at the same time.
Perhaps if your son brought up the political nature of Christian and Muslim countries, the competition for trading superiority and control of trade routes/energy, he might have a better chance to sidestep theology in favor of practicalities.
Read “Peril of Islam” by Garganus (sp). He was a missionary in an Islamic nation for many years and you will have your eyes opened.
The news in Afghanistan the last few days is a good example that you might be able to use in a school. How many people have been killed because some korans were burnt. In many Muslim countries Bibles are taken from visitors routinely at customs and destroyed. Muslims don’t give Christians the same rights they demand for themselves.
Pretty sure that islam is birthed from Ishmael the son of Hagar.
Islam is the ultimate ends justify the means ideology. Kill, lie, intimidate, anything is OK if it advances Islam. Islam allows for no compromise. Either all becomes Islam or Islam goes to war until it is. Reconciliation with Christianity or anything else is impossible.
Send him over to prophetofdoom.net for a quick comparison & tell him to follow it up over at thereligionofpiece.com for the daily dose of koranimal behavior sanctioned in the ko-ran by the dead pederast called mo-mo.
They can’t get along because, obviously, the two sides know the differences, but the doofus teacher does not. Moreover, the word “apparent” needs to be used as the apparent similarities... for those who are uninformed. The student should customize the answer based on the grade anticipated by telling the truth and the name of the teacher (e.g., abadaba doo).
If the “teacher” who wrote the question is the same one grading the answers, there’s an easy A with, “It’s Bush’s fault”.
At its core it is a matter of faith. As a matter of faith a Christian believes that Jesus was the son of God. Muslims believe he was a great Prophet but not the son of God. Muslims as a matter of faith believe that Mohammad was the greatest profit. Christians do not. Maters of faith can never be resolved
