Why do TWO processes open on the Task Manage when one Intenrnet Explorer Window is opened?

One for the frame, one for the tab. You can control this with a registry key called TabProcGrowth.

I have that same problem and moved to Mozilla Firefox to avoid my computer becoming a zombie or worse. Never had a problem though. The anti-virus scans do not catch this or make it go away, and I did some research to find out why this happens. Take a look at this:

Basically it's one for each tab. Someone down thread had seems to have a way to consolidate them in the registry settings.

I don’t know about Internet Explorer specifically, but it’s very common to have one thread to deal with the user interface and one or more threads to deal with network traffic. That way, if a network connection stalls, the user interface doesn’t also freeze.
