One for the frame, one for the tab. You can control this with a registry key called TabProcGrowth.

I have that same problem and moved to Mozilla Firefox to avoid my computer becoming a zombie or worse. Never had a problem though. The anti-virus scans do not catch this or make it go away, and I did some research to find out why this happens. Take a look at this:

I've done it myself, but very seldom. Work with it.

Basically it's one for each tab. Someone down thread had seems to have a way to consolidate them in the registry settings.

I don't run them, either, but I did run a stop sign a couple of weeks ago. : )

I don’t know about Internet Explorer specifically, but it’s very common to have one thread to deal with the user interface and one or more threads to deal with network traffic. That way, if a network connection stalls, the user interface doesn’t also freeze.

Doesn’t seem to happen with real browsers like Chrome or Firefox.

Wrong,I run chrome,I hate it.It crashes constantly, taking me to its “Oh snap We crashed page”Which shows me they know they have a problem and think they can solve it by creating a cute “Oh snap page”.When I follow its reccomendation to reload, next thing I know I have 5-6 chrome thingys running in my processes even tho only ones visible. And my pc is dying a slow death of process overload.

I was relating my experiences. YMMV.

FWIW, I also run Safari and IE. But not much. FF is the mainstay. I have the others mostly for checking web page rendering.
