Mitt Romney may have a new constituency to worry about: dogs and dog lovers.
The group Dogs Against Romney held a protest outside the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York on Tuesday afternoon to bring attention to the story of how 25 years ago, Mr. Romney drove from Boston to Canada on vacation with his dog, Seamus, in a carrier strapped to the roof of the family station wagon a tale that political commentators and opponents have seized on it as a window into Mr. Romneys character. About a dozen people stood outside Madison Square Garden with signs reading Mitt is Mean.
And it has also drawn people who wont let go. With almost 2,500 followers on Twitter and 25,000 likes on Facebook, Dogs Against Romney mostly has fun with the issue, posting cute pictures online of dogs wearing bandanas that say I Ride Inside. Members call themselves a super pack, sign messages with woof, and sell T-shirts with the slogans Never forget Crate-Gate and Dogs arent luggage.

Story is horse manure, what a man does with his livestock is his business. I passed a guy with a load of hogs last week and he did not have sweaters on them.

Shame on you! The family dog is not livestock!
As Conservatives, we oppose cruelty to animals and to the children who were forced to witness this cruelty.
How a man treats his dog is indicative of his character.
What a horrible example to set for one’s children.
I once saw a pickup truck used for carrying a complete team of sled dogs. Each dog had a tube-like compartment with a small door with a window looking out at the road.
Most dogs love cave-like dens. Most dogs also love to look out of windows from a moving vehicle. These sled dogs eagerly jumped into their individual cells, arranged like a honeycomb. It was plain that they had done this before, and were eager for the next ride.
There is nothing at all cruel about carrying a dog in a box where he can lie down and sleep, or watch the world go by. They just need adequate warmth and ventilation, and stops for exercise.
Dogs do not suffer claustrophobia: burrows and caves are natural for the whole dog family. Those dogs riding in cars seem to enjoy the heightened intensity of smells caused by wind blowing across their olfactory membranes. They are happy to travel like this. If they didn’t like such travel, they would probably bite you.
What dogs like is being with their family, which is their pack.
What they don’t like is being left alone for long periods of time, as when owners go off to work for a whole day. That makes them depressed.
Mitt, is that you? Sounds exactly like Romney’s excuse.
Mitt put poor Seamus in a cage on the car roof for 12 hours exposed to the wind and elements. He was so scared he pooped himself, but control freak Mitt didn’t walk him. His own kids say Mitt didn’t allow restroom breaks for them.
I think you all might find this interesting. I know it’s not French Politics and Culture or Fashion, but we all love dogs!

Yep! The dog loved it SO much he got diarrhea. The kids thought it was so cool they asked dad to stop.
/vast amounts of sarcasm
This one's for you, Seamus. Woof!

Dogs generally like to see where they are, feel the wind, and have a place to lay down.
So if it was an adequate dog carrier, properly ventilated and restrained and if he ensured there was sufficent water and breaks for the dog relieve itself...then I have no problem at all with this.
My guess is none of the aspects of this story dealing with these matters have been examined...or if they have, they have not been reported, and if not, probably because the dog was just fine on the family vacation and they simply want to gen up the hype.
See my post 33. This is not necessarily as bad as folks are making it out to be. Those issues I raise are the questions that should be asked, and if they were accounted for, there is nothing wrong with it.
I still couldn’t do that to an animal. Didn’t he drive a station wagon? (asking..thinking so..). I’d rather tie the luggage to the roof and keep the pet in the auto.
First, let me state that I am in no way a defender of Romney and have referred to him here on FR as mittens the dog abuser many times, have never supported him and never will. However.... I don’t believe for one minute that there is not a political agenda behind those protestors at the dog show and all of them are most likely Hussein supporters.
I would never have done what mittens did and I shudder to think about one of my dogs being on the roof of my car in a crate. I’ve never seen a dog on the roof of any car in a crate but I have seen plenty of them riding in cars, with open windows and riding in the back of pick up trucks which in my opinion is even more dangerous. The dog can easily step on the button and roll the window up on it’s neck, could fall out or jump out, or be thrown out in case of an accident. I always crate my dogs INSIDE the car while driving.
Now let’s talk about Barry Barack Hussein Soetoro Obama or whatever his real name is, for a minute. At least mittens allowed his family to have a pet, and took it with them while on a vacation, unlike the Kenyan who NEVER EVER had any pet. He stated that his kids had begged for a dog for years, but they never got one. WHY?? Then he promised as soon as the elections were over he would get them one. That was early November 2008. Did he do it? Hell no. January comes and he and the big wookie move in and begin their usurpation of the WH. Did he get it then? No....he still can’t decide what to get that will make Mr. Narcissist look the best, although I doubt if the kids cared, they just wanted a dog.
February passes, March passes, finally in April 2008 after Teddy the swimmer insisted they take a dog he found that had been returned to the breeder, they got the PWD, now called Bo. They now had ‘maids’, ‘servants’, ‘professional dog walkers’(all paid for by us) to take care of all of the chores that come with a new puppy or dog. When they lived in Chicago, they couldn’t be bothered with it. Not when they would have to do all the work of cleaning up, feeding, training, etc.
Then coincidentally he names it BO, supposedly after BoJangles and I call complete BS on that one. He named it after his initials, being the pathological narcissist that he was and made up the Bojangles crap.
I had bets with some liberals that voted for him that there would be no dog until he got in the WH and they had someone else to do the work for them. I won those bets since they were sure he would do as he promised and get the dog right after the elections.
If you love animals, you share your life with animals, unless you rent and can’t have them or can’t care for them, which was not the case with the Soetoros....and they never had an animal.... EVER!!!!
I am not defending mittens, I have said it over and over that what he did was weird. Bizarre? YES! Cruel? I don’t know, I didn’t see the crate but it is not something I would ever do but lots of people do things with their pets that I think are wrong. LBJ used to pick his Beagles up by their ears. I would never do that and I am pretty sure my dogs would yelp if I did, but maybe his dogs didn’t mind it.
The other Presidents dogs were part of the family. Barry Soetoro couldn’t care less about BO. To him, Bo is just a photo OP when he needs to try to boost his sagging approval ratings and only idiots fall for it....but after all there are a lot of idiots since he did get elected. Of course a lot of dead voters and people that voted several times probably helped with that.
From your lips to a muslim’s ass.
I can think of many other things to rag on him about than this

TONS of things, real reasons, but this resonates with the dumbed down Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Wii crowd. They don’t understand those complicated political reasons that are the real reasons to say NO NO NO to mittens, not some stupid thing he did with his dog many years ago.
