Palin says Santorum is not a ‘threat’ to Romney
The Blaze ^ | 2-11-12 | Santerelli

Former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin stole the show at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference where she delivered the event’s keynote speech Saturday. After slamming the President, shutting up some protesters, and saying that the drawn out Republican primary promotes competition and a better nominee, the former Alaska governor took a few questions as she headed for the door following the rousing remarks. When asked by Anneke Green of the Washington Times if she thought a surging Sen. Santorum was a threat to front-runner Mitt Romney; “Palin answered that she wouldn‘t consider him a threat but was still ’a good competitor.’”

Green writes that Palin praised the remaining Republican presidential candidates’ willingness to compete and appreciated their efforts as “warriors in the arena.”

While still not offering up an endorsement, Palin has spoken fondly about former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who she said she would have voted for in the South Carolina Republican primary.

Santorum is not a threat to Romney. Romney is not a threat to Obama. You do the math.

What she probably meant was “thank you” to those trying, but they aren’t much of a threat to Romney because he has the money and the ground crew.

Sad fact

Santorum is no threat to Romney in the long run and is just this week’s not-Romney. I used to think he and Romney could work something out to get more social conservative cred for Romney, which is probably what is holding him back. Neither one of them has much in the way of ideas, but what they have is basically big government, “compassionate conservative” stuff.

The problem with this scenario is that both of them are very ambitious and really want to be president, not because of their positions but because they each really feel it’s rightfully theirs...and have spent years running for the office.

Romney started in 2006, lost in 2008 and has been building his campaign ever since then. Santorum (what has he done for a living since he left the Senate?) spent almost the entire last year in Iowa, dragging his family from place to place to convince Iowans that he was a good family man and thus for some reason was particularly deserving of the WH.

So I don’t really see them coming to any kind of an agreement, but heck, you never know...

The candidates and other luminaries like Sarah all know Rick personally. To know him is to NOT like him.

I happen to know one of the former candidates from this cycle - and that person agrees that Santorum is petty and off putting - and tells me that is what everybody thinks.

Santorum is not a pleasant person (unless you loved Jimmy Carter) and is not conservative except in social areas. The last 2 “victories” were non-binding caucuses and one primary in which Gingrich was not even competing.

He has always played to Romney, and I think he will probably end up going with him in some way. That’s not ugly, it’s simply how I see it.

Gingrich is pretty severely crippled at this point. He doesn’t appear to be able to win outside the south and has already lost one of the biggest states there. Add his main fundraiser pulling the plug and it doesn’t look good.

That said, I still want him to stay in the race if only to draw fire and pick up the states he can.

The ugliness is probably due to the frustration of a few things. My theories:

A: Santorum’s snottiness while pretending to be above it all.
B: Santorum’s followers refusal to admit anything wrong about him.
C: Newts supporters frustrated that their guy self immolated to a point.
D: Newts supporters frustrated that Romney unleashed an unprecedented series of attack ads that no one could withstand.
E: The goody two shoes sanctimony of Rick and MANY of his supporters.
F: The media’s falling for the fact that all four of Ricks’s “states” were among the teeniest and tiniest of voting populations.

Just some of the things that frustrate me, anyway.

Funny, I hear people say the same words about Newt all the time. Like after Florida.

I happen to know a few people voting this cycle and they aren’t into Newt.
