Kelso, WA - Lug and Marley, German shepherds, are quarantined at the Cowlitz County Humane Society after biting a woman who walked into their home while their owner was away.
The dogs have been labeled "potentially dangerous" and it will be up to a judge to determine their fate - live or die.
It is stunning that these dogs have been impounded. The woman who was "attacked", Elizabeth Elder, walked into the dogs' home - knowing that the owner was not there.
Apparently Elder is a friend of the dogs' owner, Ingrid Sacha.
It seems that Elder took the familiarity which friendship offered a step too far when she entered Sacha's home in November, even though her friend was not there.
The dogs bit Elder on the legs, hands and face - enough that she required stitches. Elder believes that the dogs are dangerous and should be destroyed.

My dog is expected to act in this situation. I even have a sign that says if you’re not a friend of my dog, don’t open the door.
” I was bitten two times when I was a kid. “
Suppose you were teasing or beating the dogs. What then?
This is a low-volume list so dont worry!
(Please Freep-mail me if youd like to be on or off the list.)
I guess I’m having a hard time trying to understand this.
The dogs were not running loose. This was not a random attack.
They were doing what they do by nature...protect.
I don’t know what the circumstances were as to why the lady entered the home.
But I will say this..if my dogs were at risk of being put down because of this situation..I would bite the lady myself.
I am a 100% disabled OIF vet and would adopt those dogs to keep them from being killed.
Agreed. Those GSD’s did their duty. If that judge decrees their murder for defending their home, that judge needs to be removed from the bench.
I would agree completely, EXCEPT for the fact that the woman apparently went into the dog’s home when the people were not there, I’m assuming without permission.
I wouldn't do that with any dogs, but especially Shepherds. Those dogs did their jobs.

“Those dogs did their jobs.”

Exactly.
Pls add me to gsd ping list. Thank u
My friend has a pit/lab big dog with a loud bark. If I entered their house he’d come over and demand I scratch his ear. She wasn’t a close friend...
Finally had time to really look at this.
There is NO real information hashed out in this “article”.
On the surface, I’d say the dogs were OK. They did what they should do. Although I will comment that not all dogs - and not all German Shepherds - will rip a person up who simply comes in.
But I want to know what was with this woman going into the house? Was she supposed to take care of the dogs? Was she trying to do something for her friend/owner? Does she have an open-door policy with her friends/neighbors (you should go to my sister’s neighborhood; she drives me batty with her turnstile approach to neighbor kids - and yes, she has a German Shepherd)? Or was she actually doing something nefarious, hoping to pilfer a little something that she saw in the house?
Not only my current wimpy dopey GS but my old, almost-fearless guardian GS would “allow” someone in especially if they called to her in her name.
Did this woman do that? Was she expecting the dogs to be penned so didn’t?
There are many holes in this story.
Operative word... breed...Lab/Pit
Actually neither breed is very good at “watch dog duty”
Heck, little Terriers are better protectors, they just don’t have the clout.
I have been told that the best “protector” breed is the standard poodle. Doesn’t fit their image..but I do believe it.
Put the stupid woman down.
My own dog accidentally bit me, barely missing my jugular vein, did I have him destroyed? No I did not.
These dogs were defending their home against someone who had no right being there when the owner was not.
ALL dogs will bite given the right circumstances, and hell no they should not be destroyed over it.
Get a life .
Welcome to politically correct Washington State.
Every day the Real America is gradually shrinking.
Washington, Oregon, California, the northeast U.S. (where I sit trapped), Florida, Illinois and Maryland have been taken over by politically correct maniacs.
These dogs should be protected under a Castile Doctrine.
And you just sound so proud of the fact that the dogs were destroyed.

Where the hell does pride enter. I would suggest that pride is your damn problem. Get your own damn life.
I value human and animal life.
Just like the owner of these dogs does. THEY were protecting the habitat of their OWNER.
You need to get some “damn” common sense.
Maybe it is the word “destroyed” that bothers you. Yes, it is a violent word. Killing is a violent act, whether human or animal. I use the word intentionally rather than “put down”. You would understand this if you have taken an animal life. It should never be done with pleasure but sometimes MUST be done for a greater good.
You focus on the the habitat of the owner. Will you REALLY take the risk of the dog biting the flesh of a child or person that doesn't understand dogs? Yes property is important but once blood is drawn that is beyond protecting property. Even my liberal neighbor understands this concept, and chases children away from her yard because she loves her dogs and knows that once a dog bites a human, she will have to destroy it. I guess the bottom line is we are no longer a civilized society.
