TV Show - "The River" did anybody watch it?

Posted on 02/08/2012 12:16:21 PM PST by Scythian

We had the 2 hour opener DVR'd and I watched it last night, I have to admit, it really got to me, scary, creepy, and really un-nerving. I haven't seen anything this scary since "Event Horizon". I had to turn it off, everyone was a sleep and it was freakin' me out last night, going to watch the rest tonight ...

If you like scary, this is it, as far as TV shows go anyway ...

Boring and predictable. The writing was terrible.

I wanted to smack that young Brazilian girl on the boat.

I’ve been watching it off and on today (on my iPad...ABC has a great app.)

It’s creepy, and camera work like Blair Witch, plus the “reality show” feel to the story line is interesting.

But I think it could get old quick if it doesn’t develop some sort of character developement beyond what we know to this point.

I saw "Event Horizon" in the theater.

At the time, I thought that it was pretty unremarkable. OK Horror flick. Nothing particularly good or bad.

However, I had the worst nightmares for a week after it. Sheet tearing, wake-up-hollering-in-a-cold-sweat type stuff, every single night. Which is pretty unusual for me, that hardly ever happens.

Always made me wonder if there was something subliminal that I missed. I've not seen the movie again, and I'm not planning on it.

I remember an old Bud Lite commercial called “The River” where everyone has an amputation. I only saw it a few times back in the 90s befor they pulled it I asume for bad taste.

“Event Horizon” struck at our inner most fears, trust me, go back and watch it today and you wouldn’t be able to finish it. It’s probably the most underrated sci-fi horror flick of all time.

I find “The River”, despite some of the stupid comments above, is along the same line. The writers know what man fears, and like “Lost” show only enough to allow our imagination to feel in the rest (which is more horrifying than anything a writer could dream up, so, indeed, they are pretty good).

If you like scary, this is it

If it's scary you want just watch how the media is pushing for Obama's reelection and/or Romney as his replacement. Frightening.

I watched “Pandorum” the other night and liked it. The reviewers must not have liked it because it was an 09 release and I never heard of it. Its sci fi horror with an interesting twist at the end. It stars Dennis Quaid, Ben Foster and Antje Trau.

The great Flannery O'Connor wrote a magnificent short story titled "The River."

It's not really scary, though.

But it is one of the most shocking, gut-wrenching pieces of American literature ever written. A masterpiece.

I tried. But I fell asleep. Last thing I remember was a tree filled with dolls.

Is there a place where I can watch the rest?

Up until then, I thought the concept was pretty cool. The switches between live and televised views was distracting.

Event Horizon had both intriguing and disturbing premises and an even more disturbing ending, as I recall. Taht said, a large part of it was fairly ham-handed and uninteresting. There was a lot more they could have done with it, IMHO.

The young “Brazilian” girl and her father spoke Spanish not Portuguese. So it would be extremely unlikely the characters are Brazilian.

The writing was fine. It is popcorn diversion. Not meant for prize in literature.

I will watch next week.

For me the whole blair witch, realty show filming has gotten old. I just refuse to watch it anymore. It's irritating for those of us half blind to try to watch a "found film" and see details, and then the whole motion sickness thingy is bleh.

But I am a curmudgeon, so maybe this is the trend, and I'll go back to my books. :-)

My DVR was set to auto-record, so I watched about 5 minutes of the 2nd hour.

I immediately got suspicious when the dragon fly kept buzzing around.

Then, when it crawled into the young girl’s mouth and she turned into a bot of the older woman’s husband, then started the convultions, that was a bit much.

I doubt I’ll be a regular viewer of that series.

Don’t get invested. Just another sad attempt to recreate “Lost,” right down to the setting and “the eye” poster/logo — which was the first shot of the first episode of “Lost” and the last shot of the last episode.

And the ratings — not a total bomb but a little worse than mediocre. An expensive serialized show like this has to come out of the gate with a big audience, or it never pencils out.

It’ll be gone soon.

My daughter and I went to see Event Horizon in the theater when it came out. I don’t go to many movies, but it was SO worth every penny. Amazing movie. Well written, well acted, and really spooky.
