I remember the Bicentennial overdose we had in 1976. Never saw this before.

I never saw it before either. And hopefully I’ll never see it again.

“200 Years and Just a Baby”

Let’s make sure Obama doesn’t abort it.

Seeing as people are tweeting my topic.

Thanks for the story ew.com, ew.com said
*Super Bowl X (1976) The theme was “A Tribute to America’s Bicentennial: 200 Years and Just a Baby”. The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Dallas Cowboys in a great game. But the second half was tough to focus on thanks to squeaky-clean, milk-drinking musical numbers provided by Up With People, a Benetton-ad collection of students from all over the world gathered together to make the cast of Fame look like hardened criminals. If you’re too young to remember Up With People, let’s put it this way — they are the music that gets played in hell’s waiting room.

I see that SB XXV is listed. The half time might have been lame but it featured the best rendition of the National Anthem by Witney Houston you will ever hear. I still play it now and then for inspiration. There was even a dramatic fly-over at the end of the anthem right on que. Remember it was during Desert Storm. That game also featured the most heartbreaking ending to as I am a Buffalo Bills fan and Scott Norwood’s kick on the final play was just wide right.

I loved it! Of course, I dated one of the UWP girls intermittently that year and watched Up With People perform with her, so I may be biased.

I only made it about 2-minutes into the video and, not being able to take it any longer, turn it off.

I'd note tho, that according to the related videos listed on the right, they were actually invited back for Superbowl XVI?!?!?!

Also, did anyone else notice that right at the beginning there's a guy up on the platform who isn't exactly in synch with the others (he was wearing a blue shirt)? Then he's gone from the remainder of the video.

I'll take this guy (Why Being American Is Awesome: Jim Cornelison's National Anthem on 9-11-11) over Whitney's vocal gymnastics any day.

I did a parade in Atlanta, and Up with People were on the float right behind us. We thought they were pretty obnoxious, mainly because Up with People people are more or less the opposite of Drum & Bugle Corps people.

LOL! No, but it probably would be pretty accurate. I’m not aging well either!

Definitely better than watching an aging Madonna during half time.

That Super Bowl halftime show was far superior than any of them that I have seen over the last couple decades or so.

I have watched every Super Bowl and I do I remember SB X. The first really great contest in the SB, lots of scoring, lots of great plays... lots of drama all the way to the last seconds... and my Steelers won for their second Lombardi trophy. But the halftime show?????.

I have been proudly ignoring SB half-time shows for XLVI years.

My mom dragged the whole family to these concerts when I was a kid.
