To: M1911A1; grobdriver

The bobtail thing is very strange. How can it possibly help? The web of the thumb is not what I’d call a structural element. Also, M1911A1, you must be joking with your ‘nic. Firing a .45 is like having a steak with an old friend.

Naw, bobtailing is good.
If you carry InsideWaistBand (IWB) it's usually just behind the point of the hip and a good holster will pull the grip in against the kidney or small of back, depending on where it rides). Very concealable, even a 5-inch 1911 like mine.
Problem comes in any time you extend, bend over, the back end of the grip, right there where a bob tail rounds it over, pokes up your cover garment and is pretty obvious.
You learn to squat, not bend.

And that's a steak AND a nice Cabernet.
