What is your favorite romance movie? This might seem a bit odd coming from me, but there it is.

2nd question--how do I change my tagline??

How about “Star Wars 1, 2 and 3”? Boy meets girl, boy marries girl, girl dies in secret childbirth, man becomes machine.

What can be more romantical than that? :D

Did you get the movie however ?

Yep, she got me two holiday movies this year -- Love Actually and the latest (Disney) version of A Christmas Carol, which is also quite good.

Interesting that you’d mention THE VILLAGE. I, too, have always felt it was a love story first. The spooky stuff helps add needed tension to the story. (I believe the director, M. Night Shyamalan, stated that somewhere during filming he also realized it was a love story).

My favorite romance movie is STARMAN with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen. Super sweet movie and doesn’t hit a false note.

While it’s not a “romance movie” per se, AUGUST RUSH has a deep strain of emotion running through it, and culminates with what I consider to be the best final 10 minutes of just about any movie I’ve ever seen. Bring a tissue.

I just saw a low-budget Christian movie the other day called NO GREATER LOVE that caught me by surprise. The first hour is particularly strong, as the story builds. It loses some steam toward the end, as the movies message gets a little heavy-handed, but overall I enjoyed it.

It’s way more than a romance movie but it’s got that in there too.

But it’s also got james woods in his best brilliance, it’s got corrupt NFL, it’s got corrupt lawyers, murder, betrayal, spoiled daughter, racism, my hometown, and a really cool car chase on my favorite car chase street. Oh, and a kickass song that actually goes perfectly with the scene.

Favorite romance movies, “The Quiet Man,” and “Much Ado About Nothing,” the Kenneth Branagh version.

And I forgot to include the movie’s name! It’s “against all odds.”

(funny, two jeff bridges movies in a row )

Many will disagree and some will say, "Not a romance movie"...but I think the film "Always" is the greatest. I will watch it whenever it is on and always cry like a girl at various points.
Yes it's a remake of an old Spencer Tracy film but...what a remake. Whew.

Thanks for thread. Your comments on Splendor in Grass brought back memories. I too was a young teen when I first saw it.. bittersweet. Also like Dr. Zhivago, The Notebook

CINEMA PING

We are getting close to Valentine's Day... so ideas for a romantic evening at home are okay.. what else besides a good movie (yes, yes, THAT TO.. but besides romance).. meal?, gifts? Mood definer?

Sommersby and Atonement are two of my favorites although neither are conventional romance movies.

Try watching Shadowlands with Joss Ackland as Lewis. I really think Ackland’s own life connects with the role perfectly.

My thanks to all of you for the great comments. Wow—I have never posted anything that drew so many rapid responses.

What though the radiance
which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass,
of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.
William Wordsworth

Untamed Heart. That one always gets me.

Saw Rocky the other day and that is as much a romance as a boxing movie. Who could forget the line “Adrianne!!”?

My wife votes for Valley Girl, (Romeo and Juliet story) Nicholas Cage’s first big movie.

Fandango, (Kevin Costner’s first starring movie)not really romantic until the end, but a great ending.

Say Anything, John Cusak and the boombox, a modern day serenade.

I had forgotten about Shadowlands..It is a wonderful movie and I am such a fan of CS Lewis.. Good recommendation.

I also recall Pearl Harbor(the most recent one). Yes, it is a war story but woven into many other stories & a sweet love story among them

A note.. women & men will have entirely different ideas on what makes or breaks a movie to be a love story. Men, If they dislike one of the men in the movie, they will nix it overall.
