Yep. Definitely needs do do some work with the Arkansas stones. I believe the ancient test of sharpness for a samurai sword is splitting a feather in mid-air.

Based on the photo, I daresay that if that sword had been just a bit sharper, and depending on the angle, the perp may very well have been the LATE Mr. Olson. Our hero might have lopped the top of his head off.
On a side note: In some evangelical Christian circles, the fathers of young men have recently taken to presenting swords to their teenaged sons as a symbol of their faith and as a reminder they are to be ‘warriors’ in the service of God. This is done as a ceremony to show they are taking their first steps as a MAN of God. Personally, I think it’s a nifty idea.
