TULSA, Oklahoma - A Tulsa teenager used a sword he'd bought at Mayfest to defend himself during a home invasion Friday night.
Police say the 17-year-old was home alone at a residence in the 5200 block of South 36th West Avenue. Just before 11 p.m., officers say suspect Jeremy Wayne Olson kicked in part of the front door, reached in and unlocked it.
The victim ran into a back bedroom and grabbed a sword he purchased at Mayfest. As Olson entered the bedroom, the teen struck him in the head with the blade, according to police.
The 18-year-old Olson ran from the home and called 911, reporting he'd been shot. As emergency services responded to that call, police learned of the home invasion.
Olson is being held on a $20,000 bond for first degree burglary.
Only 20K? That's $2,000 from Mommy and he's out on bail. Should be $50K minimum for committing a hot burglary and maybe another $50K for stupidity.

An excellent smiting.
'Choose your weapons'
'10 pound sledgehammers'
That sound like your kind of duel? ;)

I bought my son a Cold Steel Army Saber when he was commissioned. They make quality swords.
There can be only one...may it NOT be Jeremy Wayne Olsen!
Sounds like a redneck perp to me.
My wallet birth certificate confirms my Mother’s middle name is “Clodus”.
There is no “might” to me being a redneck.
Cue John Belushi slicing Buck Henry’s forehead during skit back when Saturday Night Live was funny.
For some reason, Buck with a bandage seemed a bit ticked for the rest of the show.
“A young feller like you ought not to be talkin’ like that...un hun...”
Jeremy Wayne seems to be a special kind of stupid ...
I'd have used the spear that's on the bedroom wall, and Jeremy would be dead, bless his heart.
Thanks for linking that video. I agree with your thinking, why buy a sword if not a real one?
Good timing, if he just brought it home.
The guy on the video is a seller and well acquainted with swords...I love how at three different instances he just stares at the blade like “what is with this thing?” He is obviously impressed.
Mayfest is the local spring party with music and food in the downtown area where much beer and also some arts and craftsy stuff and various kinds of artifacts are sold.
I pity the man who meets my kukuri. the thing is so sharp it’s scary.
Hah! Missed me!
Wait till you tries to waggle yo’ head.
Yep. Definitely needs do do some work with the Arkansas stones. I believe the ancient test of sharpness for a samurai sword is splitting a feather in mid-air.
Thanks for background on Mayfest. . .never thought about keeping a sword around; but who knows; maybe not a bad idea.

better than the ones on the shopping network
lol
Did he have a permit for that weapon?
It sounds like this was an assault weapon that was probably banned by the Feds.
Did he have to reload after each shot or was it semi auto?
