Arms is arms. Firearms are just one type.
Kudos to the kid. Now he needs to sharpen his sword.

Just waiting for somebody to post the picture of Mr. Sulu from Star Trek with a sword. It seems to happen whenever swords are mentioned here.

Looks like he "got medieval" on his head to me.
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American ... the unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. From the video, it looks like the sword in question was a repro wakazashi. I'm guessing the edge was not, "battle ready."

I love swords, but only "real" swords. I can't justify the expense with my budget balanced the way it is.
Here's one that's on my wish list:

Sounds like a crappy sword.
A ball bat would have worked as well.
Oh well. Kudos to the kid for busting up the perp.

Way to go kid. Now call Carl at the Nervous Hospital and learn how to put an edge on that thing.

Many injuries from sword play in Medieval times were not cuts but broken bones. It worked fine. One swing and the attack was stopped.

The perp is Jeremy WAYNE Olson. Future serial killer?
I love John Wayne, but it doesn’t seem to be a good middle name to give your kid.

I worked as recreation director at a Summer resort many years ago. Some guy on the staff left early and left a fake Samurai sword in his room.
I got it and noticed the tang was only in the handle a short distance so I broke it off. I then ground that and about 4 inches of the blade off to a rectangular shape and made a wooden handle for it. I drilled three holes through the new tang and attached the handles with both epoxy and three bolts which I also had to grind off.
Anyway the metal was much better than I expected. I had assumed it was just plain soft steel but while drilling through it and sharpening it the metal had a fair bit of temper to it. I still have it and it would make a decent defensive weapon. I actually keep it next to the door tho I would get a gun if I had time.

I can't justify the expense with my budget balanced the way it is.With a minimum of materials and skill
anybody can make a
crude, yet
real deadly all metal flanged mace.
Some round stock, some 1/4" x 2" flat bar, some grinding and weld it up!
Thunk!
I'm partial to blunt instruments.
