Ok Thanks. yea just one more useless government mandadated mess. I dumped tons of refrigerant between 76 and 80 when I was on the ship. I'd love to have cash value now. They hit R-11 too as I understand it and that was the main refrigerant for older chillers.

I never did get my certification mainly because at the time all of our refrigerant related repairs at work were contracted out on the A/C and refrigeration end. I worked maintenance at a health care facility then and they didn't want the hassle. I started out in 1976 repairing car A/C's my senior year of high school instead of going to school as part of the schools Co Op program..

Losing the air conditioning in the summer in Louisiana and getting it up the #$%#$% while repairing/replacing it would make a lifelong conservative out of James Carville. The Ozone laws also stopped production of Halon; THE BEST fire fighting extinguishing agent, and what airplanes depend on for fighting engine and cabin fires. For now Halon can be recycled for new extinguishers, but new production is tightly restricted. Restricting Halon production will eventually cost lives.

I believe it was the success of the ozone restrictions that led global warming idiots to attempt their even grander scam.

Right now my house is 68 degrees with the heat on. I bet his is 72 or higher. Yea I do drive a large three quarter ton Hi-Top van. Kinda makes getting my wife's wheelchair in and out easier on her and me. Not that something like that matters to the royalty like our government overlords mind you.

Oh what the heck the chair only weighs 300 pounds empty plus a 300 pound plus hydraulic lift. I could just lift it myself like a good peasant and subject of our government. /sarcasm

They put Halon down in the boiler rooms on the ship. It sure beat dieing when you didn't need too. Punch the button and go up the escape trunk. But earth goddess and her moonbat worshipers are pleased when human lives are sacrificed for saving the environment. Do I really need a tag?

A/c unit refrigerant conversions are extremely difficult. R22 and R410 a as mentioned use different oil, operate at different pressures and have different thermodynamic characteristics. By the time you change the compressor, line set , thermostatic expansion valve and flush the system to prevent oil contamination you will end up with a inefficient miss matched system. A/c units are designed based on matched condenser and evaporator. In the end you are better off buying a new system.
The EPA and the Montreal treaty are screwing America.

Ultimately, the EPA is not about the environment. It is about legislating from the Executive Branch in Soviet Agency style. It has the convenient unconstitutional feature of allowing the Obama Administration to pursue an extreme global warming agenda, to make energy prices necessarily sky-rocket, and gain sweeping regulatory control over the US economy without a politically difficult vote in congress.

I’m so sorry to sound stupid, but how do you know what kind you need? We bought an older house, and I can’t find out. Our AC has been crapping out, and we were told to have it charged, but according to the paperwork I do have, the unit is almost 12 years old anyway, so maybe we should just replace? I have severe asthma, so I need AC or breathing becomes VERY difficult in North Carolina summers.
