(CNN) -- Robert Hegyes known for his role as Juan Epstein on the '70s sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter," died on Thursday. He was 60.

Hegyes was transported via ambulance from his home in Metuchen, New Jersey, Thursday morning, and was in full cardiac arrest by the time he reached the hospital, Steven Weiss, a spokesman for the JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, confirmed to CNN.

"He was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived there," Weiss said.

Hegyes' brother, Mark Hegyes, told The Star-Ledger that the actor had suffered a heart attack a couple of years ago and was not in good health.

Interesting bio on IMDB. He was Hungarian-Italian and a cousin to Jon Bon Jovi.

I remember as a child getting this issue of Dynamite Magazine and thinking "that has to the dumbest headline I ever read." I mean, nobody was saying he wasn't a real person. Anyway, prayers for Hegyes' family. Sixty is too young.

GMA showed a clip from a recent awards ceremony when he was on stage. They guy looked really, really old with long white hair. I don’t think he was any older than about 61 or 62 was he?

Well that is a shocker! It made it to 1992! I stopped getting it sometime around 1983. I remember when “the Dukes of Hazzard” were on it!

My favorite thing was “Bummers” always began with “Don’t you hate.......”?

Oh yeah! Here were some of my favorites:

“Don’t you hate politicians who take your money, use it to buy votes, and then talk about their compassion?”

“Don’t you hate politicians who cut off almost every source of energy, then blame the energy companies when prices get high?”

Okay, neither of those were from Dynamite. But they should have been...
