KFI Radio in Los Angeles is reporting that Etta James has just passed away. Further info to follow as it becomes available.
We saw her perform twice in small venues. She was a great talent. RIP.
Just three days after Johnny Otis.
Singer of onne of the greatet songs of all time, At Last:

Well said :-)
My Daughter-In-Law requested Etta James “At Last” as he first dance with my son at their wedding. Rest in Peace Etta.
...Dance With Me, Henry...
That would be “Roll With Me, Henry”, if you listed to the ‘wrong’ radio stations.

You would know who she was if you were into the Los Angeles popular music scene in the mid-1950's, especially if you tuned in to Dick Hugg--"Huggy Boy"--on KGFJ or went huntin' with Hunter Hancock at KPOP at 1020 kilocycles. You would have undoubtedly heard Etta James & the Peaches sing the following, from 1955:
And from 1956:I've never heard that version of "The Wallflower/Roll With Me,Henry/Dance With Me, Henry" which you posted, but it rocks. In the original version, recorded over Thanksgiving weekend, 1954, Richard Berry sang the part of Henry. Berry is probably best known today for his 1957 hit, Louie, Louie.
Etta James answered her song with Hey! Henry, in which her boyfriend has become skilled at cutting rug.
In our home, we listened to the "right" radio stations, notably KFI, which would have played the Georgia Gibbs version of The Wallflower--which also rocks.
RIP.
