One of the worst decisions Chrysler ever made was dumping the Neon in favor of the Caliber. The Neon was inexpensive, got great millage, and handled great so they sold a ton of them. They replaced it with the Caliber that was a pig that handled like a dump truck so they couldn't give them away.
BTW my Neon has over 180K and is still going strong.
From everything I’ve heard, the Crossfire was a good performer.
That would explain a lot.
Indeed it was. The Crossfire was basically a rebadged and reskinned Mercedes SLK.
By contrast, the Dart has a touch screen, LED tail lamps and an optional heated steering wheel. By using a heating and cooling system made by Fiat, the Dart's glove compartment is now large enough to stow an iPad.
I had to laugh at this. Cool tail lights? Heated steering wheel? iPad storage? This is going to attract buyers?
These guys deserve to go broke.
Indeed. Those items are not usually high on my list of selling points.
The neon was dumped because they were awful vehicles to keep running. I work with 4 people who had neons and we all hate them now. I get furious just thinking about how much money I blew repairing mine.
I’m glad you had good luck with yours.
I rented one of those and drove it to Florida and back with all 5 of us and our luggage. We got >30mpg and it was plenty comfortable and surprisingly powerful with all that weight in the car.
We drove the 2009.
These Chrysler products sure had some quirks.
On several I've had to remove the horn sensor, which was two strips of metal separated by a layer of foam in the center of the steering wheel.
Then one day it would not start, despite checked out battery, solenoid, starter etc. Turned out that the starting current passes through the high beams floor switch. If this switch is never used (my car was in LA city) it eventually forms an open circuit. Remedy: switch the high beams on an off once. Then it starts.
I think the biggest problem there is the "technicians" at the dealerships. they have no diagnostic skills at all they just plug the thing in and do what the scanner says or follow the flow charts but they just don't think through a problem and fix the cheap and easy stuff first like my dad taught me. If the thing is running rich it may be just an air filter NOT a CTS or O2 sensor
That car gots a Alfa Romeo badge on the grill. Can’t see a slant 6 in that model.
Yup. Three on the tree. Two door. Kind of a Robin’s Egg Blue.
You could take the whole thing apart and put it back together with a 9/16 and 1/2 inch wrench.
Darts could be quick little cars. Car and driver said that if they wanted a fast car that could blend in for a get away car,it would be a Dart with a 318[The article was written back in the 80s}
MOPAR could build them back in the day.
