NEW ORLEANSRepublicans and tea party activists are fond of accusing President Barack Obama of being a socialist, but today party gadfly Ron Paul said they had it wrong.
In the technical sense, in the economic definition, he is not a socialist, the Texas Republican said to a smattering of applause at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.
Hes a corporatist, Paul quickly added, meaning the president takes care of corporations and corporations take over and run the country.

Ron Paul is as wrong about that as he is about being an isolationist.
Kook alert, aisle 4
in closing, dr. nutz said, “so, let’s pull all of the troops out of iraq and afghanistan, and everywhere else in the world. let’s use that money here at home, say, to buy everyone a nazi helmet or a nice KKK robe.”
What a load of ****. Obama may have some willing accomplices with a handful of corporations but he is an enemy of free enterprise and corporations.
Paul is playing class warfare games pitting people against business.
How long until Paul starts talking about how Jewish Bankers are the problem?
“Ron Paul: Barack Obama is Not a Socialist”
Chainsaw: Ron Paul is a kook and unfit for the presidency.
Ron Paul: “I am not a truther, or an anti-Semite, or a pork champion, but I am DEFINITELY not a Republican!”
ANDY HILLER:
10:06:46:00 Governor Perry, your partys last nominee, John McCain, wrote in the Washington Post in an Op-ed about a year ago, his words, I disagree with many of the presidents policies, but I believe he is a patriot sincerely intent on using his time in office to advance our countrys cause. I reject accusations that his policies and belief make him unworthy to lead America or opposed to its founding ideals. Agree?
RICK PERRY:
10:07:13:00 I make a very proud statement and of fact that we have a president thats a socialist. I dont think our founding fathers wanted America to be a socialist country. So I disagree with that premise that somehow or another that President Obama reflects our founding fathers. He doesnt. He talks about having a more powerful, more centralized, more consuming and costly federal government. I am a tenth amendment believing governor. I truly believe that we need a president that respects the tenth amendment, that pushes back to the states. Whether its how to deliver education, how to deliver health care, how to do our environmental regulations. The states will considerably do a better job than a one-size-fits-all Washington, D.C., led by this president."
As much as I think Paul is a complete wingnut, he’s fairly accurate here. I don’t know that I would use the term corporatist, because they implies the corporations will have some control or input. I’d call him a fascist. Much like the fascists of yore, he is willing to let pet corporations use the government against competitors to make big profits as long as they did his bidding and support his party.
Obama really hasn’t nationalized much (GM is about it). In most cases he had just handed over things to corporations which he likes (or rather are willing to bribe him or his friends). He also gave handouts to those favored corporations. However those corporations clearly do his bidding.
For example, Obamacare was about coopting companies to do his healthcare mandate rather than government outright taking over health care. A socialist would have just done the outright takeover. Mind you he likely just looks at this as an intermediate step, but still for the moment he is no overt socialist.
There are clips of him saying that he supported a single payer system. He said he wanted to redistribute the wealth.
Other than the fact that Fascists are just a breed of socialists, I still have to disagree with the corporatist title. It implies, as Mussolini said when he first used that term, a partnership with corporations to centralize the State. There are tens of thousands of corporations in this country. Yes, Obama has used some, like GE to help centralize his power, but he has destroyed far more corporations than he has used. You probably can count on one hand the number of corporations he uses but it would take a book to count the number of corporations he has destroyed.
I remember that. I’ll see if I can find it, but I remember Paul basically making the same argument as Romney, that States can choose to ‘expirment’ with single payer systems under the 10th Amendment.
Like things like Heller or McDonald vs Chicago, Paul doesn’t mind big, oppressive government on the State level.
A “corporatist” is simply a new term for “fascist”. In Europe these corporatist fascists call themselves, SOCIALISTS.
What Ron Paul is doing is attempting to separate his followers from the conservatives who have long described Obama as a Saul Alinsky Marxist. Fascism is actually worse than socialism because it completely leaves the people out of the equation. In fascism, there is no communal ownership of anything. Everything that is not owned by the state is controlled by the state.
The point is that the Progressives/fascists/corporatists see the promotion of socialistic programs as a means of control of the people. Simply put, they buy the support of the masses by making them dependent on the government for their very existence.
They lower the level of education because a well educated public is more difficult to control. They empower the public sector unions and burden the public with the support and pension demands of the public sector unions.
In the county where I live, the public sector union workers far outnumber the private sector workers. It is this type of unsustainable imbalance that is the goal of the Progressive, corporatist, fascists. In Europe, they call themselves, SOCIALISTS.
Yep, I like a man with the guts and moral discernment to tell it like it is.
What a misleading headline.
That’s what he says in the article.
Right. The imam from the Pennsylvania Ave. mosque (White Hut) is not a socialist! He’s a freaking communist, bi-sexual, America-hating Trojan Horse!
Yes, I agree he probably wants to be an outright socialist since it is how he learned and was brought up. However he’s going the fascist/corporatist route in the meantime because it is practical.
It’s that ‘boil a frog’ thing.
Hopefully, what Ibama will be is unemployed by this time next year ..plus a couple weeks.
