This is going to take some getting used to. In the books, Jack Reacher is 6'5" tall. Tom Cruise is only 5'7" tall. Cruise is an excellent actor, though, and might be able to pull it off.

Child is OK with this. He has said that Reacher's size is just a metaphor for being unstoppable.

oh no, not Cruise!.....I can see several actors in that role....and Tom Cruise is not one of them.

Reacher is defined by many things, his height and powerfull physique being one!

Oh, NO, NO, NO!!! I’m just now reading my first Lee Child’s book on recommendation of a friend. I’m liking the story and I’m liking the character, Jack Reacher, and now I’ll have this visual of panty-waist Tom elfin’ Cruise who CAN NOT act, BTW! Uhg!

Judging from the incredible success Mr. Cruise has enjoyed, I’d say he’s the very definition of unstoppable.

My husband is poked on Lee Child’s books. I bought him 6 paperbacks for Christmas and he’s going through them very quickly. Can’t wait to ask him what he thinks of Cruise playing Reacher.

excellent actor

Honestly, that is a phrase which I have never before read anywhere in association with Mr. Cruise. Mind you, at least some of the scathing criticism of his acting "skills" has probably been due to his serial mis-castings in a bunch of his more "prominent" roles.

He is laughed about in Ireland for the awful brogue he tried to put on in Far and Away (as well as some very boorish behavior in Dublin while the film was being shot) and The Last Samurai was one of the most ridiculous films of the last 25 years. Jack Nicholson, a certifiably excellent actor, blew little Tommy off the screen in A Few Good Men.

Personally, I can't watch Cruise in a film without thinking of several actors who should have been cast in his part. Most of the films he's had financial success in were SFX extravaganzas, including the whole Mission Impossible series. So I'd be less than enthused about this if I were a fan of the book and the character of Reacher.

Ye gods! Dreadful choice to those of us who love Jack, Tom Cruise, metrosexual, as Reacher? Really?

Can’t they make a CGI Tom Cruise that’s a foot taller?

They could even make him blue to pull in Avatar fans.....

Picturing Cruise as Reacher is akin to picturing Cruise as Dirty Harry. UGH

OMG! Jack Reacher would pinch Child's head off if he knew this was happening....little Tommy nancy boy as the baddest dude of the bad dudes??

I'd laugh, but this may be the end of the Reacher books which I love...every time Child's "hero" appears in the pages, the image of Cruise standing on a footstool will appear in my mind!

They just finished filming this late in the fall in Pittsburgh. They were here quite a while filming it. I did not realize this was supposed to be such a blockbuster movie. It was overshadowed by the filming here during the summer of the Batman movie. There were nonstop stories about that all summer long. Two big blockbuster movies filmed in Pittsburgh. That’s pretty cool.

My pick for the role is Jason Momoa, Drogo in "Game of Thrones", 6'5"

Contrast him with Tommy boy.

Now THIS is Jack Reacher!

I may Die Trying to accept Cruise in this role. Maybe there is No Way Out but whoever cast Tom in this role is Running Blind. Childs should have included a Tripwire in the contract to avoid what for many of us Reacher fans looks like Bad Luck and Trouble. Maybe the movie will be the Persuader that gets me to accept this but it’s going to be The Hard Way. It seems that Without Fail, Hollywood screws up good books. They had One Shot to cast this series and they blew it as usual. I know it’s only a movie and not Worth Dying For and like all movies will be Gone Tomorrow but it’s like The Enemy of macho leading men decided to leave the simplicity of Reacher on The Killing Floor and substitute Mission Improbable special effects. I can hear the pyrotechnics Echo Burning in my ear already. Probably won’t be able to hear for 61 Hours after this one. But what the hell, I’ll probably see it. After all I’ve got Nothing to Loose.
