In cases where the police are investigating a mysterious man trespassing in someone's backyard, Step One seems to be to shoot the homeowner's pet dog.

In this case, where the police are expected to deal with a violent dog, the Steps are:

1) subdue the dog
2) Ask neighbors to help remove the homeowner from the scene.
3) Wait for backup.
4) Discuss situation with backup.
5) Decide to shoot the dog.
6) Shoot the dog.

Really highlights the other cases where the cops see a dog, draw and fire.

The dog may have had encephalitis - post distemper vaccine.

Our great dane was diagnosed with encephalitis although he had all his shots (distemper, rabies etc.,) He showed no signs of vicious behavior - but seizures, uneven gait and loss of motor function.

The same dog was involved in a similar incident earlier this year when, in August, it was quarantined for 10 days after it bit its male owner in the face

If I had an animal that intentionally did something like that, there would not be a similar incident later unless the animal's ghost did it.

“The woman was treated at the scene”........ I hope the wound was cleaned properly. Infection is assured if it wasn’t.

I’ve had three beautiful Geerman shephards, very sweet 90 pound females. It is difficult to imagine what a German Shephard-Chow mix would look like. But chows are not nice dogs.

My dad loved Shepherds and vowed that if any one of them ever bit a family member or other non threatening person, he would have put it down himself....

In fact, the last one he had, a magnificent one, had developed hip dysplasia in it's older years. So I was tasked with taking it to the vet to be euthanized the week before the family headed up north for our July 4 holiday.

There were young kids in the family and dad was afraid Zarek would reflexively turn on them and bite one if it patted him on the hind quarters...........

Dad worked with his dogs and he always believed that a dog that bit indiscriminately was the fault of its owner...........

Why would they need to call the cops to do that?

“”The first officer on scene, Detective Nick Lamay, managed to subdue the dog. “”

They’re kidding! The detective was going to what - interrogate the dog?

I can’t imagine anyone shooting a dog INSIDE an apartment!

Hey, SR: Do you know of anyone who operates a ping list for info on dogs or wolves on FR? I have some very scary news about Canadian wolves a friend is currently experiencing and would like to get the word out. It is something everyone should be aware of. Please FReepmail me in response. Thank you. Paperdoll
