Philippine authorities believe that the ASG had a role in the October 2002 bombing near a Philippine military base in Zamboanga that killed three Filipinos and a U.S. serviceman.

This was not a terrorist act by the ASG, but by a hostile competitor of a roadside bar/saloon (aka sari-sari). It happened outside of Camp Navarro, a Filipino Naval Base in Zamboanga.
