Dog makes woman's condition more manageable
Bryan County News ^ | December 25, 2011 | Mike Riddle

For Dallas LaPointe, having seizures is a part of her life. But with a new friend that she received from Long County, the seizures may be a little less dangerous. On Dec. 15, LaPointe picked up her new friend at the Puppies-R-Us pet shop in Hinesville. But this friend wasn’t from the store. Instead, it was from the Long County Animal Control Center. This new friend was a 2-year-old Doberman pinscher that had been picked up as a stray in Long County.

“We’ve had this dog for about two and a half months out at the center, and we’ve been trying to find him a good home,” Long County Commissioner Bobby Walker said. LaPointe previously had visited the Puppies-R-Us shop, looking for a dog that could be trained to help her with her seizures.

While she was at the shop, co-owner Cathy Ray said she knew of a perfect animal for her, but it wasn’t at her shop — it was at the center.

From there, Ray contacted Walker and made arrangements for the Fort Stewart soldier’s wife to meet the Doberman that everyone at the center called Dobie.

Great story!

I have a similar Rhodesian Ridgeback story. Hazel my 90lb RR was probably the most intelligent dog I have ever had. I had a boy who worked part time at my brother vet clinic doing some work around my yard. I had not introduced Hazel to the kid because he had bathed her at the clinic so I didn't think it was necessary.

I miss Hazel. When Hazel first saw him walking across the back yard she took off after him and held the back of his thigh in her mouth (gently) while she cut her eyes to me asking what she should do with him. I called her to me, she let go of him and then stayed between me and the boy for the rest of the day. He knew enough about dogs, not to run from her.

Nope....I can “hear” him...sobbing softly in his bed...wondering why no one has chosen him, cold, lonely, longing for loving arms to tenderly enfold him....and a real name he can call his own.

[I’m still not even outta 1st gear, ya know...give over or I’ll bring out the videos]

:)

It’s the universal canine expression of unfettered mucous joy.

[pity those who own Mastiffs or Great Danes....can you *imagine*?].....LOL

Their second most popular method of ‘sharing the love’ is to wipe ‘eye boogers’ or the remnants of their supper slobber on your leg.

How can you *not* feel the love?

[Odin is gently and discretely cleansing his nose of frothy salmon kibble crumbs on my shorts as I type this, possibly hoping that I’m ~not~ noticing it]

FWIW, goats also “greet” you by honking horrific gobs of supersonic snot onto your person...and then they daintily wipe their noses on your clothes.

[I’m not completely sure of *their* “social intentions”]

:)

We had a couple of goats many years ago, I really can't remember how we got them or even why. Not for cabrito! I seem to remember the male got mean and was pushing our little boys down, so they had to go. Don't remember the snot part but I am sure they did.

My Black Mouth Cur is the worst for snorting on me but I know it means she is happy.

“I really can’t remember how we got them or even why. “

Everybody who’s ever had a goat always begins their story thusly....

LOL

I have a funny “cabrito” story for you. We hunted on the Texas Mexico border and would go across into Nuevo Laredo for dinner sometimes. We were over there shopping in El Mercado and went for an early dinner at our favorite place. I ordered cabrito (baby goat) for the first (and last) time. The waiter took our order and walked into the kitchen about 3 minutes later a blood curdling scream came from the kitchen. They were slaughtering a baby goat in the kitchen (their health rules are not the same as ours). It wasn't for my dinner order but I felt responsible for the goat murder all the same. No more cabrito for me!
