Ann Marsh-Meigs has never been a big fan of U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.).
But even Marsh-Meigs, a 72-year-old retiree, was shocked to hear the jowly congressman make a snarky remark about first lady Michelle Obama's "big butt" to a group of church members during a recent Christmas bazaar at St. Aidan's Episcopalian Church in Hartford.
While chatting with five St. Aidan's parishioners on Dec. 10, Sensenbrenner took several swipes at the first lady, Marsh-Meigs said. In one, she said, the congressman claimed Michelle Obama left a recent charitable event when the media did, though Sensenbrenner's handicapped wife continued to work it.
"He then talked about how different first ladies have had different projects - Laura Bush and literacy - and he named two or three others," Marsh-Meigs said in an interview last week. "And then he said, 'And Michelle Obama, her project is obesity. And look at her big butt.'
"That's basically what he said," she continued. "It was a combination of her work on obesity and her shape."
The remark stunned the group, according to Marsh-Meigs, who was the only woman at the table where the conversation occurred.
"I was sitting next to him, and I felt he should be called on it,'" she continued. "I just said, 'I just happen to think Michelle Obama is a beautiful and elegant lady, and I think she dresses beautifully.' And then he said, 'Oh, well, I think she's elegant, too.' He just started back-pedaling.'
And he is now back-pedaling even more.
On Wednesday, No Quarter contacted Sensenbrener's office to get his version of what was said at the church function.
Shortly thereafter, the longtime Menomonee Falls representative was overheard on a cell phone discussing a recent indicent at an Episcopalian "church auction," according to Media Bistro. Its story said:
"Our source, a Democratic operative who heard the whole thing, said he was 'very loud.' Sensenbrenner was overheard saying that after buying all their 'crap' (his word) a woman approached him and praised first lady Michelle Obama. He told the woman that Michelle should practice what she preaches — 'she lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself.'
"The operative said it sounded like he was on the phone with a staffer who was telling him that someone in the media would likely write about his comments (concerning something) to which he said it was heresy and just liberal media bias to print gossip. But 'he stands by his remarks.'
That's a little different from the account given by Marsh-Meigs, but clearly, Sensenbrenner was discussing the same event. That version is now circulating in media circles and lefty blogs.
Amanda Infield, spokeswoman for Sensenbrenner, said today that she didn't know who her boss was talking to or the nature of the conversation. But she did say Sensenbrenner will be offering an apology to Michelle Obama.
"Mr. Sensenbrenner was referring to the first lady's healthy food initiative," Inflied said in a statement. "He doesn't think the government should be telling Americans what to eat. While he may not agree with all of her initiatives, he plans to contact the first lady's office to apologize for his comments."
How is this news? She does, he said she does - so where’s the story?
There’s nothing wrong with big butt (on a woman). Some men like that. The problem with Michelle is: 1) Her fashion sense is horrible. All of that Princeton education and money didn’t buy her class. 2) Her posture. She’s just not graceful and she doesn’t even fake it.
So we get to listen to the mock outrage from the liberals. The same liberals who have said much worse about Sarah Palin and Republicans/conservatives. What they have said about conservatives will be glossed over. But, we have to express mock outrage in this case.
Liberals have too many double standards.

We have a state supreme court justice who got free legal work from a firm that argues cases before the court, so according to the Sentinel Urinal, he needs to recuse himself on all cases where this firm isarguing, Never mind the fact that he'd vote for the case anyway....and oh yes, the liberals on the court accepted millions...not jsut free legal work, but millions....millions in campaign ads (our supreme court justices run for office) from AFSCME and the State Teacher's Unions....millions, but let's not ever talk about whether they should preside over the cases involving union decisions. But trust me, the paper knows what's right to print and it always involves making the conservatives the bad guys.
He may be jowly, but there is nothing wrong with his eyesight.
You know, she DOES have a big butt! She could just have her big butt, but NO, she and the whole Chicago Mafia think it is their responsibility to tell US what to eat and how to live.
Their overweening pride and arrogance is what is offensive to We the People. Liberals, of course, said things that were a thousand times worse about President Bush without called on it. Rep. Sensenbrenner has First Amendment rights, too.
I think the reason they are focusing on him is that he is on Darryl Issa’s committee that is skewering DOJ Eric Holder right now. He is, imho, a bold speaker of Truth. Think I’ll drop him a congratulatory note.

I mean; she walks with a forward lean, like (dare I say it?) an ape.
Such posture does nothing to minimize any effect of her LARGE rear.
Friend of mine has a black Dodge 3500 pickup with duals on the rear. He calls it “Michelle”.

Time for Michelle to lay off of the pizza parties and abide in own nazi diet for Americans.
