I have a book by Belle Benchley who was one of the first zoo keepers to try to make the captive environment of the zoo comfortable with the animals and to develop a relationship with them. One of her challenges was a huge gorilla that she had personally seen throw a 400lb log around its cage like it was nothing. She eventually befriend him and would bring him grapes. He loved them, but did not like the peals. She was awed by the fact that this massive animal could peal grapes better than she could.
