In the West is where the elves originally came from. It is where they went back to.
Frodo, Sam and Bilbo did die in the West, because they were mortal, but it wasn’t an allegory. It was just where they died. The elves being naturally immortal, did not die.
No, according to his obituary, Frodo did not die.
Not an allegory as Tolkien seemed to dislike that particular literary device.
