Will Calvinists Vote For Romney Or Sit The Election Out If He Is The Nominee?
12/19/11 | Tom Hawk

I have been listening to a lot of Christian talk radio lately, and reading web sites of evangelicals that lean towards the Arminiasm view, and it seems like the talking heads are almost unanimous that they want a true conservative to go up against Obama next November. But when I listen to the callers and read comments by their readers on their web sites, I am learning that a vast majority will stay home and not vote if Romney is the Republican nominee. A sentiment I am quickly learning here at FR that many evangelicals who lean towards the Arminianist view cannot imagine ever voting for a Mormon as president, yet they will allow a Muslim to stay in the office.

I myself am an evangelical Christian that lean to the Arminian view, but I plan on holding my nose if Romney is the nominee. I do want Bauchmann, Perry, Santorum, or Gingrich, but if the rest of the party elects Romney then he will be the man.

Then I started listening and checking web sites of Evangelicals who lean toward the Calvinist view, and I am finding that as a whole Calvinist leaders and a vast number of those who call these shows, or leave comments on their web sites, their followers have no problem voting for Romney IF he gets the nomination. So I am learning from what I hear that a vast majority of evangelicals, Calvinists will not stay home and allow Obama a free ride if Romney is the choice.

OK, so it looks like evangelicals as a whole are supporting the most conservative candidates in the primary, but I am wanting to know if you Freepers whop lean to the Calvinist teachings will you or will you not vote for Romney if he is the Republican Nominee? Or will you do as a vast amount of the Armenian leaning evangelicals are planning on doing, and not vote? Which would allow Obama to get re-elected and guarantee that he will finish his job of destroying the Unites States of America.

Unfortunately, you folks are exactly the targets of the media and the DNC.

They are pushing Romney to suppress your votes. I am sick and tired of the media manipulating the elections.

Is this comment the reason for your original post? Just wanted to say something snarky toward a Reformed FReeper about “predestination”?

About even. Many will not because he is Mormon, the others because of his pro-life stance, and so it’s his liberalism.

But you are mistaken about the reason. Look at the Bible belt. Romney did not win one Southern state last time. It was because of his Mormonism, not because of his politics, because him and Cain are very close in political beliefs.

During the general, Cain won the South because he is a Christian. Plus he has help from a good looking las from Alaska. :>)

How they will vote has already been decided for them; they only think they have the free will to choose.

NO, just wanted to make a smarmy comment about predestination in the context of the comment I was responding to.

I have no problem with those who believe in predestination as a rule. I think God will eventually separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to all those who call them, selves Christian on Judgement day.

Now Mormonism is a whole different matter, because Mormonism is a cult like Jehovah Witnesses and the screwed up Black Theology thing that Obama follows.

So, I am cool with Calvinists, but it worked well for the comment i was responding to where he said he was predestined not to vote for Romney.

I’m voting for Newt in the primary so we have no more concern about mitt being in the general. I voted like you in ‘08. ;) However, no way would Palin accept a VP and never ever from mitt. He wouldn’t chose her anyway - his knives were in her since ‘08 - and, as usual, in his snake in the grass fashion - behind the scenes. Go Newt! Stomp on mitt and all his venom!

This GOP clown car of candidates hasn't got anything to do with Christians, "Evangelicals", Calvanists, Snake Handlers, Budhists, Shape Note readers, Mormons, Catholics, Jews or even Muslims.

It's about conservatism and smaller government. JMHO

Is Cliff Clavin a Calvinist?

Yes, I'm sure it's all part of some "master plan".

Romney is running and staying even, not because of the media, but because of a cult of personality. One that I refuse to buy into. I'm not playing into anyone's game - I'm flat-out refusing to go along with the game. Voting for the lesser of two evils is always a losing proposition.

I am a Calvinist....and I want Newt, but if I had to I would vote for Mickey Mouse to get Obama out! In other words, if I have to...I will vote for mittens.

I guess if you follow your stated behavior you’ll celebrate four more years of terror coddling, abortion on demand and anti-capitalist behavior via the Hussein Train.

Oh, I know...”I’m not alone—millions thought just like me!”

Lemmings say that, too, as they die in the sea.

As a Calvinist, I couldn’t vote for a member of a cult. So, no Romney and no Newt.

Maybe I’ll wind up doing what Calvin did. Go to Switzerland,...er, I mean Costa Rica.

I'm not a Calvinist either but as children of God we are to hate evil, and, IMO, Romney's big gov't mindset and his lying ways and knives in the back of his opponents are evil. And his opponent isn't barry - they share too many common threads that are destructive to Our Constitution/Our Country.

No Mitt means - automatically - no barry. We defeat Mitt in the primary means we defeat barry in the general.

At some point this “vote for the lesser of two evils” crap has to stop. It just does.

I know how you feel and agree, but we have to make a choice when the future of the country is at stake.

In the last election I voted for McCain rather than Obama. In this election I will vote again, against Obama.

Now cheer up and don't think about it as voting for the "lesser of two evils". Think about it as voting for the "evil of two lessers".
Obama is more evil than any of the other candidates so he doesn't get my vote.- tom

This Calvinist (Presbyterian PCA) cannot vote for Romney since we have a pro-life plank in our Book of Church Order. Newt's adultery when in office knocks him out. Ron Paul is Loo-Loo.

So the Jury is still out, but I'm for Bachmann first, Santorum second and after that Perry.

No more Democrats for me after Hillary's and Grayson's Anti-Christian statements.

If the republicans want my vote, they need to run someone for whom I can vote. If they lose because they have run a non-conservative, the republicans have no one to blame but themselves.

I vote principles, not party.

but whoever wins the nomination I will vote because one thing I am SURE of is that NONE of them will choose Marxists to sit on the court.

While I agree with you that contemplating Obama making the Supreme Court nominations would make a less palatable candidate easier to vote for, based on his history of appointments while Governor, I am not sure Romney would select anyone different than Obama.

Romney wouldn't have a snowball's chance, due to what has become of this nations collective state of mind. Every hard-core Calvinist could quit their jobs and volunteer to go door-to-door for the Romney, and it wouldn't matter once the counting was done.

If he's the nominee, kiss any chance of unseating the Won whom voted "Present" on the road he traveled along (along with his legions of demonic fellow travelers) to the hostile, internal take-over and subversion of this once mighty Republic.

Now shut up and drink your TEA.
