I'm only posting this because it's very late on a Saturday night and I thought that it might elicit a variety of responses that could be informative or enlightening.
I can think of a myriad of reasons why this is true. Can you think of any?
You know you are screwed the more your interest becomes self, to the point when you have to run for your life.

But we have a lot going for us. It would be better to build on that and prepare for what's coming...

Maybe you could elaborate.
I will, however, say that America is unlikely to return to
the country that it was 20 years ago.
As I have posted many times, Marxist PUBIC education, media, and a Communist president have pretty much set the USSA on a path that will be very hard to reverse.
It will take a lot more then just kicking the Kenyan ass out of the presidency to bring America back to its senses.

Well, that is quite self-defeating, unless you are in a great state like Tennessee.
As for myself, I left the country almost eight years ago.

NDAA’s indefinite detention of American citizens without trial. Obama will sign it on Christmas Eve hoping the last few Americans who are awake will be busy with other things.
