Coral Gables house donated to government sold for $1.175 million
A South Florida man willed his historic house worth $1 million to the U.S. government to help eliminate the country's growing debt.
The Miami Herald reports that Uncle Sam put the Coral Gables house up for auction Saturday. The winning bid was $1.175 million.
The house belonged to James H. Davidson Jr. who lived there from his teenage years until he died last December at 87. He also left $1 million to the government.
Would have been better to flush the money down the toilet
Stuck in a time when a million dollars was a lot of money.
The government blows thru that in the blink of an eye.
Thanks James !!
Pftftftftttt....idiot. One less Hussein voter.
It is a shame to see someone stuck int the ebb of tide between wanting to do good and believing that a corrupt government is the way.
$2.175 million is chump change in Obama’s America. It’s too bad he didn’t send it to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital were it would have done some good.
what a waste
What a tool!
Didn’t he have a cat or a worm he could have left it too? It would have been put to better use.

Well, let’s see now. The US Federal Government spends 4 BILLION dollars a day.
That is 4 B/ 24 hours, or 4,000 Million/24 hours, or 166.666666666 Million per hour.
Hold on! I’ve got to get my shoes and socks off for this on!
Ready! 166.66666 Million/ 60 minutes = 2.77777777 Million per minute.
2.7777777Million/60 seconds = 0.046296296 Million dollars a second, or $ 46,296.296 per second.
Now adding the 1 million cash to the 1.175 million = $2,175,000.00 life net worth.
2,175,000.00/46,296.296 dollars per second = 46.9800003 seconds of financial life donated by an 87 year old Patriot.
That is a good lesson in the futility of what the 1 % can actually do - - - one and a half TV ads, per modest millionaire.
BTW, isn’t it part of THE AMERICAN DREAM to be a modest millionaire? You know, self-reliant, not a burden on the Government - - - .
Now the government can breathe easier for .0012 of a second.
I’ll give the old fellow credit for this: actually giving a monetary gift to your government beats whining that you aren’t being taxed enough (but offering nothing ‘til they change the rules for everyone).
One more South FloriDUH trust fund baby working to keep the ‘duh’ in FloriDUH.
The most important fact is that it was his house to do with as he chose. He acted voluntarily.
Give the guy a break and round it up to 47 seconds.
He did put his money where his mouth is unlike hypocrites such as Warren Buffet.
Great!
Now all we need to do is get 250 more of them to do the same and we may almost break even from the Solyndra debacle.
