The Scavengers:> "Johnny comes across the camp of a group of scavengers on a cold winter night. They have been besieging the home of a family with the intent of taking over their home for the winter. The scavengers are running low on ammo and try to trick the homesteaders into giving them some."

Great stuff.. I miss ‘Combat’ too.
Not long ago I was speculating with a buddy about how long would it be before we’d see the TV Western return?

(The original theme is on Youtube too, but Johnny Cash’s version is better)
“Great stuff.. I miss Combat too.”
And 12 O’Clock High too.
It's been, what 30 years since I've seen him?
He wandered alone...He was fightin' mad too!
I have been watching the late 80s TV series, The Young Riders, via Netflix.
I guess I was doing other things or it wasn’t on the station where I lived at the time it was originally broadcast.
It is okay. Not the greatest scripts or acting, but it certainly beats another CSI or Law & Order.
Hell on Wheels (AMC) is a pretty good new western series.
Remember ‘The Gallant Men’, a WW2 “Combat!’ type show set in the Italian theater? I think it was on only 1 or 2 years around 1963 or so. It was a good realistic WW2 TV show.
OH Yeah I get ME TV ON KDOC Channel 56.3 I been watching that on only on Saturday morning LOL!
“The Rebel” is one western that hasn’t yet made it to dvd. I recall the Encore Westerns channel running it back in the mid-to-late-90s, but I haven’t seen it since. A good one, though.
Lots of old western shows have become available on dvd in recent years. One outfit, Timeless, has released a slew of them, including some of the lesser-seen ones, like “Tales of Wells Fargo,” “Laramie,” “Cimarron City,” “The Deputy,” “The Tall Man,” “Whispering Smith,” “Destry,” “Restless Gun,” “Laredo,” “The Texan,” and probably a few others. They also recently released the modern-day western/rodeo series “The Wide Country.” I’d rather watch this stuff anyday over the current garbage the networks are airing.
ME-TV Has Combat!,12O’Clock High,The Untouchables and others
I just picked up both seasons of “The Guns of Will Sonnett” on DVD. Still trying to get “High Chaparral” and “26 Men”.
Wow...wish I got this channel.
But not Rawhide, I wonder why?
Was "Yuma" his nickname or was he a very ethnic guy for a Confederate?
“Combat” airs on ME-TV weeknights at something like 1 a.m. Had insomnia last week and watched two episodes. “12 O’Clock High” is also on during late-late night.
I watched “The Rebel” as a kid when the Civil War centennial had just begun. Agree, the later intro by Johnny Cash was much better than the first. Loved that galloping downbeat.
TV western stars carried some neat weaponry; Lucas McCain’s select fire Winchester, Josh Randall’s `mare’s laig’ (quite a story about ATF harassment), Johnny Yuma’s shotgun pistol, Yancy Derringer concealed at least five hideout guns & his sidekick Pahoo carried a sawed-off, Paladin’s derringer in his gunbelt, Johnny Ringo’s LeMat revolver with the shotgun barrel, plus all those cowboys with their Colt sixguns which fired eighteen to twenty times between reloadings.
Back to topic, the Rebel episode I remember most is about a small town dedicating a statue to a fallen Civil War hero and when it’s over Johnny Yuma has revealed to the townsfolk that their `hero’ was executed for cowardice in the face of the enemy.
Anyway, no TV western would be complete without the original cigarette ads. Just sayin’.
Oh, the first four seasons of “Rawhide” are indeed out on dvd. Official releases from Paramount, which has also released seasons of “Gunsmoke” and “Have Gun, Will Travel.” Re-mastered prints, they look great.
People call him Johnny Yuma in the first episode, must be his name......(:>
