Is it too late to revoke his Medal of Honor and demote him back to Major General?

Interesting the TIMES felt the need to show what an “airplane carrier” is.

I am so glad that Costa Rica is on our side. :p

The Japanese now have a HUGE advantage in the Pacific and they should consolidate their gains instead of overreaching and stretching themselves too thin.

Then again, if they had taken some of the French possessions and nothing else, the world probably would have hardly taken notice.

nice map on “page 7”

Nice maps you added too. I still think someone could produce a pretty good browser war game with maps like that.

I don’t think so, but it would never happen unfortunately.

The most fanatical Nazi anti-semites, tended to be the Austrians, even moreso than the Germans.

If Sutherland was making decisions on his own, instead of fronting for MacArthur, he should have been shot for treason. Not only did he do the wrong thing, he prevented others from doing the right thing. It would have turned out better if he’d been drunk in a brothel.

Just looked at Wikipedia - Sutherland was a real low life. He cuckolded a POW, and put his mistress on the government payroll as a Captain.

One of my favorite stories from World War II was when General George C. Kenney was made MacArthur’s new air commander and Sutherland tried to dominate him like he did Brereton.

Kenney took a piece of paper and drew a tiny black dot on it, handed it to Sutherland and said to him, “The blank area represents what I know about air matters, and the dot represents what you know.”

Since it’s off topic anyway, I’m pinging both my lists. It’s been a while since I suggested this list, which has been faithfully maintained daily on FR since before the start of the war in 39, the anniversary. Even if you only peek a day or so a week, it’s fascinating to read current coverage, and imo there’s value in reading events over time, as they occurred. Anyway I won’t bother anyone again, at least till the Battle of the Coral Sea

Thanks for the Ping SJ.I was 8 when Pearl Harbor was attacked and news was from the radio or 2 day old newspapers until the Movie Tone News Reels reached the little theater in our small town. The newspaper carried maps daily of the “Western Front” and the “Eastern Front”. Both of my brothers were drafted by June 41 as were my future brothers in law plus a sister volunteered in AAF about 1944. Every bit of news was censored I’m sure...

There were unconfirmed reports that German raiders participated in the attacks.

That's right, you did. 2011-2015 wasn't it? How soon we forget.

I miss Indy Nidell's Great War series on YouTube.
