gosh he speaks so slowly I feel like it’s addressed to 3rd graders....
Fascinating speech but I could only listen to the first half because he was sooo slooooooow in speaking.
Interesting that he assumes (reasonably) that Hitler was pulling the strings on Japan, but as far as I’ve read about it the Japanese kept the Nazis in the dark. Still, it would not be inaccurate to see it as “Axis powers on the march” and of course Hitler declared war on the USA just 4 days later.

It was intended for the US Army in the Philippines for the construction of defenses but never made it.
The blast that destroyed the Arizona was from 100 tons of gunpowder. From watching "Mythbusters", I know that the nitro in dynamite packs more of a punch than gunpowder, but at 100 tons I'm not sure if it would make that much of a difference.

Back from that paper defense which went really well. Looks like things are really happening here. I can’t leave you guys alone for a minute!
What’s all this about a black Japanese carrier off Oahu. Is that the carrier reported sunk? And now Guam has been hit too. It’s all very confusing.

I don't know if it was black or not. Sounds kind of like one of those cloaked ones you and BroJoe were talking about the other day.
I better get up and move around a little or I will wind up needing a Serutan. (Natures spelled backwards.)

Homer, you have done a FANTASTIC job on this thread today!
I haven't had time to listen to all of the links yet, but I certainly will this weekend (I really look forward to hearing them as the tragic events unfold).

Let me forward your comment to the one who located and selected the broadcasts and then formatted the thread.
By the way wagglebee, don't miss the Catholic Hour at #45. Try to imagine such programming on today's NBC. I just can't do it.

Thank you. I’m very glad you are enjoying today’s posts. It is a very tragic day in American history and having listened to all these broadcasts already, I found the “fog of war” aspects of it all absolutely fascinating. I imagine what it would have been like to be huddled near the radio waiting for the next update desperately wanting to know what is going on and how bad it is.

Cougar, thanks to you too for all you do on these threads. Even if you don't hear it all that much there are a lot of us who really appreciate it.
I look forward to the excitement of seeing the next four years unfold.

I imagine what it would have been like to be huddled near the radio waiting for the next update desperately wanting to know what is going on and how bad it is. Many Americans heard the Hindenburg disaster on the radio and certainly things like FDR's radio addresses and the World Series; however, Pearl Harbor was the first tragedy that truly affected America that was experienced in "real time."
