As a special treat today for Realtime fans and followers, we have Sammy Kaye’s Sunday Serenade. This is just a listen into the typical Sunday afternoon here in New York City as everyone enjoys their day of rest. [“Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye” my foot. He may sway, but he sure don’t swing. – Homer]

Interesting tidbit: the first bulletin read in this clip by John Charles Daly, regarding reports of an Army ship being torpedoed, is authentic, but the second bulletin ("We interrupt this program") is a recreation. Daly had actually read a bulletin with the first reports of the attack at the beginning of The World Today prgram which aired at 2:30, a half-hour earlier.

What we remember from the media isn't always what happened.

That’s pretty amazing!

Oh, and Rosie O’Donnel has weighed in. She says it’s an inside job and “Fire never melted steel in the history of mankind.”

they might need to reconsider that “we bring you good news” slogan, or at least hold it off until the Doolittle Raid and the Battle of Midway....

My blood runs cold just reading about this, and I wasn’t even born yet. If only Americans had the resolve now that they had in the 1940s.

At around 0830, the Netherlands freighter Clipfontaine opened fire on a formation of six Japanese bombers, the first Allied support for the US in the Pacific Theater.

Another Dutch freighter, the Jagersfontein, was tied up alongside dock in Honolulu Harbor, but her crew had dismantled her AA guns for servicing since they were in a "secure" port. It is fortunate that the Japanese didn't hit her, as she had a cargo of 100+ tons of dynamite in her hold at the time.

These radio broadcasts brought back exactly how I felt on 9/11. I knew my mom was sad that day, but now I get a much better feel just how she felt. She had to live through this twice.

The attackes actually lasted about two hours, but anti-aircraft fire continued off and on for a while later. There were many reports of bombing of civilan areas, including in honolulu itself, but those turned out to be shell from our own anti-aircraft batteries.
