Adele's Contract: "North American Beer is Not Acceptable"
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Dec 6, 2011 | Greg Wilson

Rolling in the Deep" singer's no Jane Sixpack

Some singers' contracts stipulate that the red jelly beans have to be removed. Adele's backstage rider says keep the American beer away from her.

In her boilerplate contract, the British singer goes out of her way to diss stateside suds. She must have 12 bottles of beer on her bus, but it can't be just any beer. It must be the "best quality European lager beer." Beck's, Stella Artois, Peroni, the pact suggests helpfully.

Then, for the band's and crew's buses, only "good quality local lager" is acceptable. "NOT Budweiser, Miller or similar 'National' brand," the rider, obtained by thesmokinggun.com, states.

She also goes out of her way to insult California, insisting on two bottles of wine from Italy, France, Spain or Australia.

The "Rolling in the Deep" singer does approve of American chocolate bars, including Milky Ways, and there appears to be no anti-American sentiment in her demands for milk, orange juice and mineral water.

Oh, and anyone getting into the show for free has to pony up for charity, according to the rider. People receiving comped tickets must donate a minimum of $20 for charity upon pickup, and this is non-negotiable. “There will be no exception to this rule,” according to the document.

Hate her music. Like her politics. Really like her taste in beer.

I wonder how she feels about Dos XX?

The jelly bean or M&M color stipulation in contracts happened because one major rock group discovered that many of their contract stipulations about safety had been ignored, placing their lives, and the lives of their crew at risk.

Therefore, they specified that their hotel room had to have a bowl full of a particular color of candy in it. And they knew that if there *wasn’t* that candy waiting for them, then other, far more important stuff had probably also been ignored.

Beck’s? Absolute skunk piss made strictly for export. I never saw it in my two years in Germany and I went all over the country.

Yeah...mainstream pop is not built around singers who don’t need a myriad of studio tricks to sound acceptable...I like Adele.

She’s change her mind if she ever tried Shiner Bock.

Based on that clip, she is not someone I would listen to for very long. She’s got talent and more power to her, just not my cup of coffee (I don’t drink tea, it’s in my contract).

Does anyone still post here who can read between the lines?

This sort of rider is completely standard in the entertainment industry, and Adele's requirements are small potatoes compared to most.

Why, then, do the leftists at NBC feel the need to detail her tastes in beer in a way that makes her look bad?

Could it have something to do with Adele's outspoken resentment of high taxes, or her opposition to nationalized health care?

Would NBC really do such a thing? Hello?

As a beer-drinker, I whole-heartedly agree. No Bud, Miller, or Schlitz.

There are plenty of good American beers, but they are local. The nearest thing to a wide selling American beer that’s good is Sam Adams.

If I were doing the contract with her, I’d say, fine, your choice. And then maybe afterwards try to introduce her to a few good American beers.

Oddly enough, I can get a 12-pack of Beck, Heineken, or Stella Artois at the supermarket here in Vermont for the same price as a good local beer or Sam Adams, so I sometimes do.

“Beck’s? Absolute skunk piss made strictly for export.”

Reminds me of being 16 or 17 with my friends thinking we were sophisticated as heck because we scored a case of Beck’s one night.

You’re right, it’s sparkly equine tinkle.

Well, with all that being said, I’m off to the ice-box for a cold Busch Light.

Has anyone here tried Black Star lager? Wow, I just tried recently for the first time and I like it! It rocks. I think it’s made in Montana or Indiana, somewhere in flyover country.

Give me a Sam Adams or a Modelo Especial or an IceHouse. I also like Miller Draft and Miller High Life in the quart glass bottle, ice cold. So sue me.

As for Adele... who is she...??

On my tour bus I would have one block of Swiss cheese, one box of Ritz crackers, blue cheese crumbles, three bottles of Franziskaner Weissbeir, three bottles of Spaten premium, three bottles of Lucan Moo Joos, and a bag of cashews.
