So earlier this year, I came across a great deal, two late '60's Winchester model 94 30-30's, one was in decent shape and had an octagon barrel (unfortunately not the collectable one) and the other a total rust bucket I was just going to use for a wall piece. Paid $50 each for them, great deal! I got thinking last night that I should just do something crazy with the rust bucket it since it will never be a valuable rifle so I stripped the old blue off and started working on the pitted rust and it came to me. Being the Packer fan that I am, I have decided to make it into Green Bay Packers tribute piece. This is what I am thinking, powder coat the receiver, barrel band and sights green bay green, then powder coat the barrel, magazine tube, trigger, firing assembly and lever assembly yellow. As well as engraving the team logo on the receiver with gold inlay. Now this is where its going to get interesting, I am thinking about making a custom grip for it turning it into a long barrel lever action 30-30 pistol. The rework on the lever handle would not be that difficult to modify for a full pistol grip, just some cutting and TIG welding. I figured since I already have four model 94's already and this is almost a total loss to begin with might as well have some fun with it. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I'm not sure why you would take a firearm and offer it was as a tribute to the modern equivalent of bread and circuses, but people have spent more time doing sillier stuff.
Sounds like a good creative project.
Turning a rifle into a pistol can have some ramifications...
Better look into the laws on this. I seem to recall that there were legal issues with the old Broomhandle Mausers with the stock/holster, and of course, there’s minimum barrel length for any rifle or shotgun.
I don’t know what the legal ramifications are, but they might well get ugly.
Good luck!
Mark
I suggest you volunteer some of your time to the poor, infirm, or disabled.
Naa, just kidding. How about hand-engraving each of the legal names of the residents of the city of Green Bay, Wisconsin onto the stock? Then you could post pictures of the result in News/Activism.
Naa, just kidding. Great idea. Didn’t know there were octagonal barrel models that “weren’t valuable.”
If you decide to paint it instead use Duracoat.

re: Rifle, Pistol. Consult ALL aspects of FAA
It is technically a violation of the 1934 National Firearms Act to convert a rifle configuration to handgun.
While you are at it, why not take your family Bible and remove the cover and replace it with the cover of a Mad Magazine.
Sounds great to me! And, being a GB and gun fan, I’d love to see the pics of your progress!
Now there is a great project!! Thanks for the laugh of the day!!
I know that the Pack beat the Stillers last year, but it's easier to work in Black and Gold and we're gonna whack the Packers this year. {It's a little levity, I know you've got guns}
If that works, you might then try taking a Daisy air rifle and giving it the same treatment with NE Patriot Blue and White. No pun intended, just a political statement.
If he keeps the barrel length to 16 inches or longer there is no problem, unless the feds have implemented a total over all length criteria since I last looked.
“It is technically a violation of the 1934 National Firearms Act to convert a rifle configuration to handgun.”
We can thank the NRA for writing that law.
The Feds will use any excuse they can to put you away. Just look at the guy trying to get his rifle fixed for firing more than one round. But don’t worry, we live in the land of the free—you’re free to do what you’re told.
No offense but I imagine the result would be a very fugly looking piece. In addition to the valid legal concerns of turning a rifle into a handgun, I think the handling of such a thing would be awful. The grip would have to be longer than the lever it would be ridiculously barrel heavy.
Here is a lever action pistol based on a model 92 Winchester. It is legal since it is originally built as a pistol and not a conversion.

Just saying...
Ok, he can call it the "Brett Farve Tribute Rifle".
