Something else I would like to see:

Take the Top 32 teams from the preceding season, and for each team, draw two random opponents for the following season, each team plays one of those games at home, the other away. Set aside two weekends for those games, one in September, and the other in early November. That way each team has to play two quality non-conference opponents, including teams like Boise State.

One of the things about the Gators schedule over the years, is that they have not played a regular season non-conference game outside of the state of Florida in over 20 years.

Re: a playoff, I’d rather have the # 5 or # 9 team pissed off than the # 3 team.

Division 1A and 2 and 3 manage to handle playoffs. I do like the bowls cause it’s just more football to watch, even though many are stupid and feature crappy teams with no business in the postseason

But I have a different very radical idea, if you love tradition you’ll hate it. Get rid of the current conferences. They are silly anyway, Big “East” is adding Boise State and SAN DIEGO State. Big ten has 12, Big 12 has 10. Have good teams play only other good teams. Have relegation and promotion like they do with professional soccer in Europe. Then the regular season would be the playoffs and there would be no pointless games like LSU versus LA Tech or whatever. Something similar could be accomplished less radically by the good conferences kicking out their dreg teams and adding better teams in their place.
