A lot of people that don’t like the culling of DOGs(cats)...
HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH MURDERING BABIES WITH A FEDERAL MANDATE..
You know..... ABORTION...
The rescue that I got my last dog from goes into kill shelters and adopt dogs that are due to be killed the next day....Its called Last Day Dog Rescue...my rescue was an old senior dog that had been put in the shelter cause its owner died and no one in the family wanted her...I had her for 20 months until bone cancer got to her with a spontaneous fracture of the shoulder. She was a good girl and is buried in my side yard next to a dog I had for 13 years until renal failure finally took her down so much she couldn’t walk and quit eating....
I have rescued two Great Danes (one still with us), and they have been the best dogs I have ever had personality wise.
Maybe they should get an injection of their own...
Anyone who thinks dangerous aggression and “ Great Dane” belong in the same sentence shouldn’t be making decisions about dogs.
Whoever put that list together is an idiot. Husky? Great Dane? Seriously? I don’t doubt that they have a severe stray dog problem, and that a lot of the strays may need to be put down, but who the hell came up with a list that includes Siberian Huskies and Great Danes as “attack dogs?”
I would imagine the bigger part of the pit bull problem in Cumberland County is a demographic issue not of the dogs, but of the owners.

For those unfamiliar with the area: Cumberland County and the City of Fayetteville are home to Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base. There’s a big transitory military population around there (hence the popular name “Fayettenam”). The comings and goings of Army/USAF personnel might have something to do with the dog problem, I don’t know. Maybe people are ditching their dogs when they get transferred or leave the area, or go on deployment?

I have never met a mean Great Dane and I’ve been around many of them over the years.Yes they will protect their home and owner but they are not the type of dog that just goes and randomly attack other animals or people.
I moved to the country so I could let my dogs (strays that came up) run free. They were happy until the county paved the road, then the joggers took over.
One filed a complaint and within two days I had the sheriff and backup appear and told me I had to pen them up.
They are not happy dogs now, they are prisoners in my yard. They never caused problems with people walking, riding bikes or riding horses, only joggers who stirred up the “chase” response in them.
Great Danes? Huskies? Are these people delusional or are they just haters of any dog larger than 20 pounds? I’ve never, ever met a vicious Dane or Husky.
I bought my gray and white Siberian Husky from a reputable AKC kennel nearly 13 years ago, and although she has a wolflike look and will bark at strangers until they are accepted into the house, she is a big baby who sits on my nieces and lets them play with her ears and paws. She shares her food and pet pillows with my cats.
My daughter’s American Staffordshire Terrier (aka Pit Bull) is also a cat lover, thinks he is a lap dog and in winter marches along on his leash wearing his blue sweater, politely greeting neighbors on walks.
Over the course of my adult life, I’ve also owned 2 German
Shepherds and a Chow, all of whom lived to a ripe old age and never bit anyone, although they did frighten a few just by looking scary, especially the Chow. I do always buy from AKC recommended breeders, but that is because I like the characteristics of certain breeds.
The people in Cumberland County, NC who promote this insanity need a course in responsible pet ownership, not to mention minding their own business instead of conducting doggie witch hunts-watching a few episodes of “Dogs 101” and “The Dog Whisperer” wouldn’t hurt, either...
We had a Great Dane years ago (Atlas). The only risk you faced with him was that he thought he was a chihuahua and was trying to constantly climb into your lap. Great dog!

GERMAN SHEPHERD PING LIST
This is a low-volume list so dont worry!
(Please Freep-mail me if youd like to be on or off the list.)
While I don’t personally agree with any kind of breed specific list of dogs to be destroyed, I think we need to look at this from a different perspective. Animal shelters have only two options in the disposition of the dogs they take in. They can put them up for adoption or they can euthanize them. If they adopt them out, they can and have been found liable if that dog subsequently injures someone. Most shelters don’t have the resources to hold a dog long enough to be able to determine whether or not his temperment poses a risk. They also can’t afford to pay for lawsuits or settlements. Unfortunately, a measure like this is just an expedient form of controlling costs.
Someone needs to do some breed research. The only thing in danger of being “attacked” by a Great Dane is the sofa. It belongs to the above mentioned lounge lizard for napping! lol
Bad dogs are made not born. As to Great Danes, my parents had Danes before I was born and growing up they were wonderful, GENTLE loves of mine. My brother and I slept on them in the day and they slept by our beds at night. Because I adopted so many needy dogs and cats in my adulthood I never did get a dane of my own. And I never did have a bad dog of any kind.
1500 pits seemed like an awfully large number so I went to Wikipedia to see the county’s human population numbers for comparison.
Wikipedia already had a entry on the dog adoption proposal.....
On Monday, December 5, 2011, a proposal is being presented in Cumberland County, North Carolina that all Dobermans, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Pitbulls, Mastiffs (all bully breeds), Akitas and Huskies will fall under a new breed ban.
According to a report published by Compass.org, These dogs will be held for the mandatory 72 hrs and then will be killed, they will not be given a chance to be adopted.
If the dog is an owner turn-in, he will be killed the second he walks into the back.
This ban will only result in mass extermination of innocent animals.
A petition has been created to try and stop the breed ban.
Clearly, Cumberland County North Carolina is comprised of human inbred, uneducated trash.
