SANTORUM CHALLENGES GINGRICH TO “LINCOLN-DOUGLAS” STYLE DEBATE - Awaiting Reply

Verona, PA – Friday evening, during an appearance on Fox News Channel's "On the Record" with Greta Van Susteren, Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum challenged former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to a “Lincoln-Douglas” style debate in Iowa. The debate challenge was issued after former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney refused to debate Gingrich in a Human Events/RedState debate in Washington, DC.

Senator Santorum said: “Newt’s been campaigning on doing Lincoln-Douglas style debates and I think it’s a great idea - Count me in. The voters deserve more than 60 second sound bites, they deserve substance and real solutions to the problems facing our nation. This will be a great opportunity for the people of Iowa to learn more about us, our records, and our vision for America. Newt and I have been friends for 20 years, so this will be fun. Game on.”

Mike Biundo, Santorum Campaign Manager, said: “Speaker Gingrich is an ideas politician, but that doesn’t mean all his ideas are good – an individual mandate for health care, amnesty for illegal immigrants, and Wall Street bailouts align closely with Barack Obama. Senator Santorum is a conviction candidate who has a record of consistent conservative successes, and he will put that record and his vision for a brighter America up against anyone.”

Soooooo many "conservatives" discounted Santorum from the outset because of his 2004 endorsement of Specter...at the behest of his party and president. Yet, when it comes to Gingrich's 2009 endorsement of Scozzafava, we are told that it was just a mistake, that we need to look at the totality of Newt's record, etc., etc.
Very good observation Joe.

“Awaiting reply.”

I’m sure they are trying to stop laughing. It might be a while.

That is so demoralizing and condescending; you should be ashamed Jess. Rick Santorum is just as honorable as any of the other 7 Dwarfs.

Good on Santorum. We need to rid the field of Newt.

NO Newt!

I think that Rick Santorum will be the big “surprise” coming out of Iowa.

I was on the Cain Train to a Better American but due to a breakdown, I transferred at Santorum Station.
I hope you live in Iowa. Talk Rick up to all those Hawkeyes.

I never liked his reason for supporting Specter, who, switched back to the Rats eventually.

But he’s a Master Debater...

Why would he run from Santorums challenge.
After all the Grinch is the smartest man in the world. SAC

He’d have a hard time explaining why he debated Huntsman and not Santorum.

Explaining to “who” that matters is the question. Santorum supporters of whom there are few? The general primary crowd that doesn’t care? “I respect Rick and would love to get a chance to sit down with him one-on-one in January, after the holidays, depending on my schedule at that time...if, our course, he’s not out of money after his big loss in Iowa...”

Good enough. I was bitter at him for that up until about a week ago. I’ve had to let it go. I like Newt but he endorsed and campaigned for Dede Scossofava. Gotta let it go.
I’d love to see Rick Santorum come out of Iowa in the Top 3.

Just damn!!! I keep up with the news and I missed that. I didn’t even know that they’ve already had the Caucuses, and that Rick lost big, in Iowa. Thanks for the info.

I left off the /facetious tag....lol ... Gingrich won’t attempt to debate Santorum until January...when Santorum most likely will be gone...

Here’s my surprise prediction for Iowa Caucus winner: Ron Paul. You heard it here first.

I’m still a Perry guy, however. He’s going to pull third there.

Here’s another poll on the GOP race that just got started, so the numbers are very skewed right now. Everyone can forward it around to anyone planning on voting in the Republican GOP primary or caucus, in an attempt to get a larger and more representative voting base:
