Verona, PA Friday evening, during an appearance on Fox News Channel's "On the Record" with Greta Van Susteren, Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum challenged former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to a Lincoln-Douglas style debate in Iowa. The debate challenge was issued after former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney refused to debate Gingrich in a Human Events/RedState debate in Washington, DC.
Senator Santorum said: Newts been campaigning on doing Lincoln-Douglas style debates and I think its a great idea - Count me in. The voters deserve more than 60 second sound bites, they deserve substance and real solutions to the problems facing our nation. This will be a great opportunity for the people of Iowa to learn more about us, our records, and our vision for America. Newt and I have been friends for 20 years, so this will be fun. Game on.
Mike Biundo, Santorum Campaign Manager, said: Speaker Gingrich is an ideas politician, but that doesnt mean all his ideas are good an individual mandate for health care, amnesty for illegal immigrants, and Wall Street bailouts align closely with Barack Obama. Senator Santorum is a conviction candidate who has a record of consistent conservative successes, and he will put that record and his vision for a brighter America up against anyone.
You’re not arguing w me. You’re arguing w Newt. The quote I posted was straight from his mouth. He admits he was insensitive about the divorce because he wanted it and Jackie didn’t. If you don’t like that, slap Newt around. Don’t blame me for what he said, though. He said it, not I.
Then maybe Newt can ask “Honest Rick” about this;
Pennsylvania residency and tuition fee
In November 2004, a controversy developed over education costs for Santorum’s children. Santorum’s legal address is a three-bedroom house in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, which he purchased for $87,800 in 1997 and is located next to the home of his wife’s parents. But since 2001, he has spent most of the year in Leesburg, Virginia, a town about one hour’s drive west of Washington, D.C., and about 90 minutes’ drive south of the Pennsylvania border, in a house he purchased for $643,000. The Penn Hills Progress, a local paper, reported that Santorum and his wife paid about $2,000 per year in property taxes on their Pennsylvania home ($487.20 per year to Allegheny County, 2006 through 2008, based on a 2007 value of $106,000,[114] plus Penn Hills School District tax). The paper also found that another couple possibly renters were registered voters at the same address.[115]
At the time the issue arose, Santorum’s five older children attended the Western Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School,[116] with 80 percent of tuition costs paid by the Penn Hills School District.[117] At a meeting in November 2004, the Penn Hills School District announced that it did not believe Santorum met the qualifications for residency status because he and his family spent most of the year in Virginia. They demanded repayment of tuition costs totaling $67,000.
When news reports showed Sen. Santorum was renting his Penn Hills home, Santorum withdrew his five children from the cyber education program that Penn Hills School District paid for. That saved Penn Hills taxpayers about $38,000 a year.[118] Although Santorum said he would make other arrangements for his children’s education, he insisted that he did not owe the school board any back tuition. Once the controversy surfaced, the children were withdrawn from the cyber school and were then home-schooled.[119]
Nah, lol. I don’t expect Newt to rise to the challenge. Just like you couldn’t respond to my challenge to review my posting history and tell me why you think I have some type of obsession with Newt’s divorce. Come to think of it, prior to this thread, I think I’ve mentioned Newt’s marriages and infidelities fewer times than Newt has actually been married! Nevertheless, that didn’t prevent you from posting your smears, accusations, and falsehoods about me. Stay classy, just like your candidate!
(Disclosure: I live in Georgia, and Gingrich was once my Rep)
” Stay classy, just like your candidate!”
Thanks! Will do!
Here’s another bump for your ego!
Thanks!! Just to show that I'm willing to do my part to help all the GOP candidates, let me propose this for the Gingrich campaign theme!
Indeed. I'll be glad to get Obama out of the White House period, but it sure would be nice to replace him with a rock-ribbed conservative.
Propose this...
Oooooh....that must be one of those super-smart, hyper-intelligent, professorial academic debatin' tricks you learned from Newt! Is that a Lincoln-Douglas move, or an Oxford technique? I'm sooooooo impressed.
This is too good, Santorum will win a lot of support! Gingrich has everything to lose.
Just wanted to give you another bump...it did, didn’t it? I can tell.
You’re doing just fine :-) Keep up the great work!
Conservative talk radio will be all over this the next few days. The Grinch will have to respond one way or another.
This is a brilliant move by santorum.
Sorry ... had to step out for a bit.
So his kids went to a school that was funded by his property taxes. This was a non issue hit job at the time and of no consequence now. I remember a local news crew trespassing on his property filming through the windows of his EMPTY residence. If that’s the worst you’ve got he’ll get my vote.
So his kids went to a school that was funded by his property taxes.”
Yeah, that was the issue. Thanks for setting me straight on that. I couldn’t tell...looked like it was for sending kids for free to schools others paid for.
That's an excellent point! Thanks, hadn't thought of that.
Yeah.Take another look at him. The msm and the elite hate him because he refuses to back down an inch on the moral issues of abortion and homo indoctrination.
Beck has been favorably highlighting Santorum as well.
