Never found him all that funny. Big ole doofus that acted more than a bit gay.
I loved that show.
I loved that show.
RIP.
i don’t mean to hijack your thread but i followed your link to wiki... and came upon those annoying pleas for money from the peeps who produce articles. I don’t care if they ask for money but I find it irritating like they’re doing us a big favor. I also noticed the fellow from India who posts article donated 250 rupees after the Mumbai massacre. That’s 5 bucks American. Back to Alan Sues.
Basically an untalented puffter who far outlived his 15 minutes of fame.
Just shows that even moderately talented can shine when the writing and directing(?) was as good as it was on Laugh-In. LI was the right place at the right time with the right people and even now watching some of those skits is to fall down laughing. When you can get John Wayne and Richard Nixon to do guest skits and it works, it was a true moment in TV.
[Tongue-in-cheek] Hee-Haw without the country.
I thought at the time that he was kinda goofy
The only reason I watched R&M was to see Goldie Hawn
I used to fantasize at the time of being the one
that applied all the art work to her
Some people think the Laugh-in shows from 40 years ago was better than some of the tv shows currently produced today.
He was the poor man’s Paul Lynde.
He was a WWII vet, so give him points for serving and for some degree of courage.
He made many of us laugh for a number of years. As I remember '68 thru '73 that was a much needed service.
He was able to lampoon his closet gayness at a time when that alone was a risk.
He was one of an ensemble that broke ground for many entertainers who have followed.
And, watching Laugh In today is a sad reminder of how naive we were then and what we've lost since.
Finally:
OK; he was gay, like no one here knows and accepts anyone who is gay?
Face up, most of us have friends or associates who we know to be gay...don't have to condone it but neither should you condemn any and all who fall under the general category.
(Full disclosure: No, I am not gay.
Yes, I live in So Cal and have some pretty good neighbors who are.
Yes, they understand that I don't admire that part of their personae.)
RIP, I met him years ago, he was a very nice man.
you bet your sweet bippy!
