It may seem a technical point to some, but to those focused on abortion as an issue, it isnt.
Breaking from groups that believe human life begins at the moment an egg is fertilized also the position of the Catholic Church, of which he is a member former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told ABC News he believes life begins at implantation.
But he expressed confidence that he can win the vote of anti-abortion activists despite this difference.

Actually, using implantation as a standard may avoid some serious problems in the future.
That is, many couples must, for a multitude of reasons, use in-vitro fertilization to conceive a child. Often because they cannot do so the “natural” way. But reproduction is not easy, even in the best of circumstances, so this type of fertilization has to be redundant, to compensate for its high failure rate.
Already the courts are facing bizarre situations where, for example, a divorced couple contend over the possession of fertilized eggs in cryogenic storage. Usually the wife wants them to conceive, and then to demand child support from her ex-husband who does not want to do so.
The courts right now see fertilized eggs as “things”, property, not living potential humans with rights. Divorce cases will not be better if a third attorney can declare himself a representative of their fertilized egg.
Look at the odds.
A healthy, fertile woman has only an average of a 20% chance of successful fertilization during a given fertility cycle. About 10% of women have unusually high difficulty in successful fertilization, which means trying for at least one year without success, as well as permanently infertile.
30-50% of fertilized eggs fail to implant.
25% of pregnancies miscarry before birth.
In the US there is a 6% infant mortality rate, not including abortion.
So there is a big difference between fertilization and implantation.
There you go again, telling other people what to do.
That statement is just simply idiotic and it's the lackadaisical mindsets like yours that has led us to the tyrant like government that we now have to overcome.
It was a suggestion.
Gingrich Calls For Personhood Amendment, Where Life Begins At Conception
This guy just keeps sticking me in the eye with his left wing nonsense.
My thoughts exactly. Hmmmm...how many Catholics voted for Obama? Millions. They voted for a man who believed in partial birth abortion, where a baby is partially delivered, then the Dr takes a surgical knife and severs the babies spine, then they throw the baby into a plastic bag.
So yes, lets see all those Catholics just be so pissed off at Newts difference in belief.
How many Catholics voted for Obama in 2008? You know the guy that supports partial birth abortion?
2008:
On Tuesday, Catholics, who accounted for about a quarter of the electorate, supported Obama, at 54 percent, over McCain, at 45 percent...
Everyone, move closer and listen up!

The World according to Newt. Hes the Philospher of everything. Follow the narcissist! Just what we need right now..
Exactly. Newt can never answer a question Yes or No. He always has to be “brilliant,” to have “ideas.”
Reagan didn’t care who got the credit. He actively concealed his brilliance. He didn’t mind if people—even his fans—thought he had only three or four basic ideas—cut tax rates, cut spending, defeat the Soviets. That’s why everybody could tell you what “Reaganism” was. It was what Ronald Reagan had been saying for forty years.
Gingrich will not stop doing what he did the other day: Going off on a toot about paying schoolchildren to mop floors. The important thing isn’t that it’s not a bad idea. The important thing from Gingrich’s point of view is that it’s “transformative” and “new.” The important thing from Democrats’ point of view is that this “idea” can be instantly translated into “child labor.”
Thank you, it appears I needed the biology lesson not Newt!
Monty Python ping.
No, really, this does make sense. :’)
Thanks wide meadow.
Dang, Newt. You just jumped on those coattails, and there hasn’t even been the first primary vote yet. Better wait a while to bail, you know, like you did with southern evangelicals. Had a good, long ride on those, right? Got you where you wanted to be. Nothing has changed. Ride ‘em, compadre.
